after the recent firerfox update it pretty much destroyed my css, now I spent 10 hours created the squarest and ugliest firefox css known to man just to spite rounded corner design

it started from a broken search bar then when I tried to fix it something else broke, then it became the most annoying whack a mole game of all time so I removed everything and start from scratch.

I genuinely thought I had opened Chrome somehow the other day when this update came out for me. It's so dumb.

So instead of just toggling it off, you invested lots of time intentionally making your browser look bad?

Not for me lol. I added the config to my user.js, committed to my repo, and restarted the browser. Now I have what I wanted and not a gross mess, and it took 1 minute.

buttons and menus are still rounded I wanted everything square for the colors that's just place holders later I will make it match my desktop theme, plus with my own CSS I can make everything use only one row which is save a lot of space

I've done similar when designing/troubleshooting CSS - obnoxious colours, temporary heavy borders (potentially also obnoxious colours). Makes it much easier to see where your objects are specifically, z-index, unintentional overlaps and so on.

Finally someone like me, thought I'm the only one doing this with css

.fucking-piece-of-shit {

Ok. I just turned that new toggle switch off in about:config because, while I didn't love it, it was for me more just that the old style was easier to parse and I was also used to it.

Yours is awesome.

My favorite was:

This was acceptable too:

4.0 was where it was at, it's what i styled everything after for years.

Yeah I actually really like how they did with the back button on the 2nd picure

I did the same at first. Then I went with this instead:

* {
    border-radius: 3px !important;
}

I'll fix things one by one slowly, probably until the next UI overhaul comes. Then start over.

Disabling nova in about:config doesn't fix the issues?

I'm in the same boat with a custom theme -- even Librewolf is affected by this crap. Any tips on fixing the search? I don't know what's so hard about a fucking text box that they have to tweak the whole DOM every second update.

  • try this:
#urlbar {
	background-color: var(--seco);
	background-image: none !important;
  border: 1px solid var(--line) !important;
  margin-bottom: 3px !important;
  margin-left: -3px !important;
  margin-right: -4px !important;
  height: 30px !important;
}

.urlbar-background {
	background-color: transparent !important;;
}

#identity-icon-box {
	display: none !important;
}

.button-background.labelled {
  border-radius: 0px !important;
}

#trust-icon-container, #QRCodeGeneratePageAction, #star-button-box, #picture-in-picture-button, #ssbPageAction, #urlbar-zoom-button, #reader-mode-button, #identity-permission-box  {
	border-radius: 0px !important;
}
  • url container:

:root {--urlbar-container-padding-block: none !important;
}

.urlbarView-background {
    background-color: transparent !important;
    margin: 10px !important;
    border: 0px !important;
}

.urlbarView {
    background-color: var(--seco) !important;
    margin: 10px !important;
    border: 1px solid var(--line) !important;
    border-radius: 0px !important;
}

.urlbarView-row[selected] {
  background-color: var(--accent) !important;
  border-radius: 0px !important;
  margin-left: 4px !important;
  margin-right: 3px !important;
}

.urlbarView-row:hover {
  background-color: var(--accent) !important;
  border-radius: 0px !important;
  margin-left: 4px !important;
  margin-right: 3px !important;
}

/*remove from history button*/
.urlbarView-button {
  background-color: transparent !important;
  fill: var(--text) !important;
  border-radius: 0px !important;
}

.urlbarView-button:hover {
  background-color: transparent !important;
}```

Revolving door of executives means we all get a bowl of Apple's regurgitated lukewarm slop eventually

There actually is UX research behind the rounded corner phenomenon. They make people feel like the interface is easier to use, and that feeling actually leads to a feedback loop where people experience less stress, cognitive load, and genuinely have an easier time using the interface.

"There actually is ux research"

No offer of scale, methodology, funding source, sampling parameters? This isn't a very serious conversation, but fwiw ux research is very often crafted with bias towards a specific end.

1

Yea, couldn't be arsed looking it up for a quick comment, but I'm not terribly afraid of 'big round-corners' skewing studies.

1

About recent change: I actually kinda love it. Those rounded corners look appealing to my eyes, somewhat similar to liquid glass on iOS.
