Army of Darkness, but I almost don't want to tell you that since I think you might need at least Evil Dead 2 to know what's going on. It just--literally--drops right in
It doesn't drop right in. There's a recap section that explains the backstory enough for the movie to make sense.
Is Army of Darkness the only movie that is a sequel, that isn't the same genre as the original? Evil Dead is horror/thriller, Evil Dead 2 is a horror comedy remake, and Army of Darkness is a screwball adventure comedy.
My favorite moment in all of cinema is in Godzilla vs King Kong. Godzilla breathes fire on King Kong, and King Kong doesn't like it, so he reaches down, grabs a tree, pulls it out of the ground, and stuffs it root ball first down Godzilla's throat to put out the flames.
It's sublime. Poetry. They should have sent, a poet.
I was making a reference to the car, but I'm not sure if people would really understand Ash without at least the second film. It just seems like his attitude to everything would be confusing.
It certainly is different from everything else--they kind of went back to the tone of the second after that--but I wouldn't be surprised if it gets a horror tag simply because of the well scene.
The recap thing at the beginning shows the car getting sucked into the portal/vortex/whatever.
I'm not warning anyone away from watching Evil Dead 2, that's a good movie. But I do think you can watch Army of Darkness alone and understand what's going on. The deadites might not make much sense, but ED2 doesn't explain them either; asshole ghosts just possess people sometimes to yell about eating souls or whatever, apparently entirely for fun.
It was just a joke about the car falling from the sky.
As I said, it's more about Ash's development for me. Over three movies, he becomes more of a caricature and I am not sure how much people can accept where he's at in the 3rd movie going in blind. There's no arc to him in AoD. He starts out over the top and insane. I think seeing at least the 2nd before this gives some explanation to him
Totally for the fans. We knew what was coming already, it didn't have to say anything. As much as I love the original poster for the first film (had it on my wall forever) this one is the best for Star Wars, even if you didn't like the prequels. It's perfection.
Me and my buddy were sitting on the couch smoking bowls watching news coverage about all the crowds at the theaters. We were a couple of blocks away from one so we decided to drive by and see how crazy it was in-person. Once at the theater, there was plenty of parking and no lines. We went to the box office expecting there were no lines because everything was sold out but we were able to buy two tickets to the next showing around 9p. We had enough time to go back and smoke more bowls and when we got back to the theater, we had plenty of choices for seats. I remember how much I hated the acting performance out of young Anakin and Natalie Portman, and whatever it was that Jar Jar was supposed to be. When The Force was explained as a blood disease I questioned why I ever liked Star Wars at all. I enjoyed Episode III when the jedi kids were slaughtered, The Force Awakens, and the last bit of Rogue One, but haven't kept up with any of the side stories or origin stories. The first time I questioned my fandom was when I went to the theaters for the specialized editions. When I saw the CGI I thought if this is what his vision was supposed to be maybe I don't like his vision.
Well, in that we knew there was an origin story coming, somehow he turned to the dark side from being a Jedi, etc. I'm okay with most of the prequels now, wasn't then. They could have been better, but...
This one because it was an accident; somehow a black piece of paper got 'accepted' as the artwork instead of the actual artwork and everybody else just kinda rolled with it without asking questions.
"And I said, ‘Honestly, if I had a choice between that piece of shit and just an all-black frame, I’d go with the all black frame.’ And apparently what happened was I walked out of the office and he called somebody up and said ‘He wants it all black!’ He wasn’t hearing what I was saying. So if you ever wondered why there was literally nothing on the one sheet for Aliens, that’s why.”
There are cleaned up versions of this poster online, but that perfection of the image omits the essential aesthetic of seeing it on a beat up VHS tape box in the 99-cent horror section of the video rental store.
Oh hell yeah. Scanners and The Stuff have some awesome covers. As a kid, I thought these movies would be scary as hell, and when I was old enough to finally watch them, I was shocked at how ridiculous and funny they actually are. The smell of theatre popcorn always brings me right back to those moments of fear and wonder looking up at these posters in the cinema lobby.
I have a forever memory of seeing the poster for Jason Goes to Hell hanging up in the theater. I thought the movie must be epic because the poster was so cool.

OG
the entire movie in one painting
Groovy.
This is my boomstick.
What film is that?

Godzilla goes from a cautionary tale about the horrors of war and nuclear weapons, to this amazingness

You could make the argument that Alien is sci-fi/horror while Aliens is sci-fi/action.
You could make the argument that a vanilla soy latte is a three bean soup.

Oh yeah the movie is A Midwestern Dipshit In King Arthur's Court. It's a movie about throwing rubber skeletons at Bruce Campbell.
M3gan is scifi horror, M3gan 2 is scifi action.
Joker is a thriller, Joker 2 is a musical.
Friday the 13th is a slasher, Jason X is scifi horror.
Army of Darkness
Thanks!
Buy the ticket, take the ride.
Niu Lai poster made by a theater because the mom and son who made the movie didn’t have a budget to produce promotional material
Quite a few:
Some of them I can’t find, like the original teaser poster for Pirates of the Caribbean where a skeleton is helming a ship through a storm.
Edit: this one, too.
Maybe not favorite, but it's up there. Best thing about the movie and really tells you all you need to know.
This single poster arguably has more depth than the entire prequel trilogy. I remember being absolutely stoked when I saw this poster.

If only that was true ...

Had to look this one up. According to Cameron:
I mean, it works!
Yeah that's the story I was thinking about! Heard it on Lateral I think.
Alrighty then
This one's brilliant.
I know some that are definitely better IMO but since I have this hanging on one of my walls:
The one I have is without any text or border though.
My Neighbor Totoro’s release in china was delayed by 30 year due to political tensions. The eventual release got a new poster:
I like it much more than the original
Was a toss up between this one, 2001, good the bad and the ugly or back to the future
As a kid, when we went to the video rental store I would look at the horror movie covers. They were the coolest!
The two that most stick into my memory are Dead Alive and American Gothic.
I’m right there with you.

Yes! The frayed corners indicated multiple rentals, which MAY indicate quality.
Another favorite of mine is the House cover.
Freakin love terrorvision. For decades I thought I was literally the only person who’d ever seen it.
Diane Franklin, Mary Woronov, Garrit Graham (RIP), Jon Gries…

... it was not 😆
