I travelled to the future and it didn’t happen btw

People are still waiting for him to pickup the check at that Cuban restaurant in Miami.

That was effectively forced by the supreme Court, not the administration. Administration planned to keep the money.

8
lemmy.world

Fair enough, although it would not surprise me if at least someone in his admin thought that, at worst, the corporations would get the benefit, if donnie's accomplices were not able to get away with this aspect of their smash-and-grab agenda, and hell, that's part of the conservative schemes - benefiting corporations over people.

3

I can't find it now but there was at least one guy in the Trump administration that bought bonds that would pay out when supreme court ruled Trump's tariffs were illegal.

2

Weren’t we supposed to get huuuuge tariff rebate checks as well…so yah…this isn’t happening. Smells like desperation.

Those people are idiots and you should refrain from talking to them.

41

These are the same people who would kill their children to save their souls.

13

I mean, they're right, though I wouldn't use the word "saving". I'd rather be "saved" from raw, unbridled capitalism.

11

I know it sounds stupid to a lot of people here, but I do think this is a potentially winning angle with a lot of voters. People have been trained for decades to believe that socialism is equivalent to Soviet style communism and that once you start down the path, there’s no turning back.

“You’ve made your ruling, let’s see you enforce it”

Where does political power come from?

7

As Congress has chosen to allow the President to exert Congressional power, so We the People, with the assistance of decades of fascist propaganda, have allowed the oligarchs to exert... Peoplenal? power. Shaddup, lemme have that one, okay? But seriously, the power of the people is in the hands of the oligarchs.

Unless we take it back.

But a third of us actively have chosen to depart from reality, logic, sanity; another third are too poor and tired to care, and the last third have enough energy to vote but that's about it.

So basically, we're fucked.

Doesn't matter if you pay or not the attempt to sway votes with gifts, prizes or money is specifically illegal.

7
Madison420reply
lemmy.world

No one had to enforce anything. The international community is what matters and they don't enforce that they just judge you by it.

1

We're losing gdp hand over fist, losing trade deals, getting pushed out as the oil currency, multiple countries have already divested their good reserves from us shores. We are losing in every single measurable metric so yes it has helped.

1
Aulireply

There is a lot of stuff people say is illegal but if no one is willing to enforce it then the legality of anything not enforced is pointless.

1

Read the comment chain and don't double reply with things I've already responded to.

Of course, but you'd need to be missing part of your brain to ever think he WOULD pay. Also, what is illegal for a working yank is not illegal for the epstien class

1

Doesn't matter, it calls to question the legitimacy of the election and no international body that isn't directly corrupt would accept them as legit leadership.

4

Huh what does any international body have to do with anything. Most countries are bending down and sucking Trumps cock.

... I've got some bad news for you, friend.

1

... so you think other nations are going to stop interacting with the United States if the US legislature is installed via bribery and corruption?

Has that happened for any other country? Let's look at the 2025 Corruption Perceptions Index list, and you tell me which countries are getting kicked out of the UN or cut off from international diplomacy.

When he pardons himself, every state can prosecute him for election tampering, and he can get 50 5-year consecutive sentences.

1

Legal justice? Sounds nice. Fake, unrealistic. But nice.

2

Doing a good job governing and making people better off then campaigning on that success is legal.

Boring news cycles, but legal.

2
dan1101reply
lemmy.world

Well yeah, I guess "tampering" has a negative connotation. Would "He yelled at me that I should vote for Smith" qualify as legal election tampering?

2

It qualifies as "every commercial for the last 2 months and half the shit in my mailbox"

2

At least....gotta bankrupt the country so the rich tech bros can buy it up and make their little city-states

5

Oh another morality test for America, the last one was " will you vote for a corrupt rapist who has proven they are bad for the country, or a woman". This one is " knowing exactly how fucked everything you care about will become, will you still vote for it if a corrupt liar says they will give you money that they literally cannot give you"

10
lemmy.world

Couldn’t have said it better myself.

What would be nice is if this very illegal offer was actually investigated and prosecuted.

Edit:

After I thought about this for a minute it’s not much different then:

  • “Elect us and we’ll cut your taxes by $5,000.”
  • “Vote for us and we’ll cancel $10,000 in student debt.”
  • “Give us Congress and we’ll increase Social Security benefits.”

But I guess coming from him everything seems illegal and grifty.

3

No, it isn't like those things at all. Those are promoting changes to how the government works. This is a direct bribe explicitly for voting.

6

Investigated? Prosecuted? Yea, and like his felonies, at the end they’ll say he’s not gunna be punished in case that makes his job of being a super criminal while in charge of that country difficult.

1

A promise from the always does lies man!

Also, you've spent that and more on lost savings, higher gas, groceries, restaurants, fucking everything he broke.

Shoots you in the toe, cuts off both feet and then announces, "if you keep me around, everyone gets a single shoe!"

And if you're a loyal cult member all this time, do you have any issue with the gate here? Like... Why isn't he just giving you $5k today, or for the last election and and all the fascism you enabled? Almost sounds like he's full of shit and only a moron would believe anything he says.

lemmy.ca

A classic anti-democratic and anti-socialist right wing argument is that people vote for the left because the left promises them government benefits.

Mitt Romney :

"There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president [Obama] no matter what... who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it... My job is not to worry about those people. I'll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives."

19

Republicans when talking about min wage: "We can't give out money, or else inflation happens, learn something!"

Republicans when voting comes up: "HAVE FREE MONEY!"

13

How about if he just stops fucking kids and protecting his kid-fucking cartel?

24
lemmy.world

Why don't they just give it now? They control all 3 branches.

10
lemmy.world

I'm sad there are no repercussions. This shouldn't be allowed. Its not okay. Even saying it isn't okay.

Election meddling isn't okay.

10

It’s not ok that politicians on both parties are controlled by corporations. But here we are. Our political system is so bad I’m not even surprised they’d win with this lie

5

Democrats should counter that they’ll pay double whatever the Republicans pledge (min $10k, max $30k), paid entirely by a wealth tax on assets over $1 billion if they win a filibuster-proof supermajority.

Billionaires actually have enough assets to get to $30.6k per person, so Democrats wouldn’t even have to tax their assets above $1 billion at 100% to get there.

12

What a dam jackass. Why doesn't he just say we'll all get ponies and hot pants while he's at it?

9

Assuming there are about 250M adults in the US, $5K for everyone would ring up a bill of at least $1.25T. Im sure the party of no handouts and fiscal responsibility did this math though.

Free IVF for everyone!

Remember that promise too?

9

I have people in my family that said they voted for him in 2016 because they thought he was going to make childcare free or something. I tried to explain that not only is that not a conservative thing, but also that he's a total fraud.

10

on the one hand this is stupid, on the other hand he was elected by stupid people, so upon reflection it will probably work as a motivation.

Trump is the most predictable human to ever have lived because if he’s speaking you can be sure he’s not telling the truth. It’s a 100% guarantee.

10

well, there was that one time recently where he admitted that he was building his own monuments now because "Nobody will do it once I’m gone. When I leave here, nobody will."

2
lemmy.world

It's a low-ball figure. $5000 would last us about a month. Rent, Utilities, Food & more, it all adds up. The election is for a period of 24 months, not 1 month. A reasonable monetary figure that isn't a lowball would be $120,000 ---> $5000 a month for 24 months.

fedia.io

Wait.a.minute that sure sounds like UBI, ya filthy (animal) socialist! ;-)

11
piefed.ca

Man, what a plot twist it would be if Trump brought in UBI. I'm literally lol right now at the implausibility of it.

6

They want to pay mothers that stay home with their kids.

1

Make it $10K, and I'll consider it, but I want 50% up front.

(Fuck this treasonous pedophile, I'll take his money, and still vote for the most Commie candidates I can find)

I'm in the market for a new roof and was looking into metal vs tiles. I expected the former to cost more but the price difference was insane. The roofer explained that the tariff war is to blame. As it stands, even if I got a 5 grand rebate on metal, it would still not cancel out the tariff. Of course, as a Canadian, the thought exercise is moot, but I wouldn't be surprised if my American counterparts are crunching similar numbers.

5
Dionysusreply

Your first mistake is assuming Republican supporters in the US crunch numbers, or do anything other than fondle Trumps balls

7

I feel like lemmy Americans probably would, but it's doubtful there is much of an intersection in that Venn diagram.

1

No reason to crunch numbers anyway. He also said everyone would get a check in the mail from savings generated by DOGE early in the admin. Guess what happened with those.

Anyone still believing this man will believe anything from absolutely anyone. There is no other explanation.

6

I had a guy re-shingle my whole roof for $5k. And it's a 1800 sq ft home. American dollars. This was in 2023. He did the whole thing himself in one week with a helper feeding him materials and cleaning up behind him.

Has held up great.

1

I would pay $5,000 to prevent him from winning the midterms

1

Make it 20k and we'll talk.

I think at this point I'm open to bribes

Edit: 20k is my estimate on what it would take to leave the country.
