I'm starting to think the robot things from The Matrix didn't figure out to enslave us out of nowhere. Like I'm pretty sure we legit gave them the idea and they just ran with it.

The article doesn't state what the reason would be. The transcript of the podcast mentions "farming" once and does not say why "A.I." would do it.
On the podcast, the professor talks about the "artificial state"; Human governance by A.I. which is owned by corporations. She mentions of A.I. would treat humans the same way we currently treat animals (factory farmed). But again, no mention as to why A.I. would do this.
Does she explain it in her book? Who knows.
If nothing else to feed ego. What's the point if you don't have billions of people to be wealthier than?
For the data centers, there was a documentary on this in 1999
