the deflock map has made it really easy to find out where the white people live.

Sometimes the rich people want them. There's one Flock camera at the entrance of a nearby rich neighborhood aimed into it to catch cars entering or exiting. All the others in the county are next to county property or along roads with high traffic.

My area used to have a Flock camera pointing down a short dead end road. I wondered who lived on that road that it needed its own alpr but then one day the camera was turned to face the arterial.

Thankfully my city got rid of Flock.

I only got 2 in my town, and they are next to the richest area. I have a feeling they were requested.

Rich people are boot lockers who never think they'll be the ones targeted.

Lot of rich white neighborhoods. Not a lot of places where over 1/3 of the population is Jewish.

And? It's not just white privilege. There are a lot of more expensive and whiter neighborhoods in Manhattan. It would be more interesting to find out how they managed to keep Flock out so others could emulate it.

You tell the chief of police where you like walking your 10-year-old sex slave and they'll remove the cameras for you.

Likely by not having a major thoroughfare. The part east of central park barely has cameras on one road total.

For us non-Americans, can someone provide some info about that blue blob on the bottom left, where it looks like there's a camera every 2m?

Hells Kitchen? Also the Javits center is near there so high traffic.

Hells Kitchen

They looking out for demons trying to escape?

That's near the entrance to the holland tunnel, which I presume is what most of the cameras are based around, bridges and tunnels to catch people evading tolls or just maybe trying to flee out of the city?

In their defense, white collar crime - whilst doing the most damage to society - isn't generally done on the street.

Big deal. Cameras along the perimeter can basically log whenever they come and go. The rich and privileged need to know all those other cameras need to go if they really want a modicum of privacy back.

Hard to say what they mean by just "income". Things like Per Capita Income just divide an area's total income by its total population, meaning non-working adults, retirees, and kids with zero earnings are factored into the average.

I checked a few rich areas around me and they've got about the same amount. I think for many of them, it's to protect their riches rather than to preserve their privacy from the government. After all, they own both major parties so what is there to fear?

Now if only we really were hunting down and executing the rich - bet they'd be more eager to not get tracked. But... I won't hold out hope.

you can live in manhattan on that income or is that like two people making that income?

You can definitely live in Manhattan on $140k. You probably have a studio or 1BR apartment.

8
piefed.social

yeah but it lists it as an average while housing is averaging 1.3mil.

Most NYC residents rent, they don't purchase the homes they live in.

$1.3M is actually lower than I would have guessed for this neighborhood considering the amount of homes here that are probably worth more than $10M (maybe it's a median, not a mean?).

A quick search does show a bunch of listings for studios less than $500K.

140K is an after-tax income of 100K. If you spend 75% of your after-tax income on housing (which is utterly insane but people do it), that's $6250 per month, which could support a house price of $800,000 to $900,000. Not a lot for Manhattan.

You could also pay $6250 a month for rent which is also utterly insane, but would at least get you a somewhat normal apartment with some actual space.
