Careful what you wish for - younger conservatives have been crazier and have entered politics or grew up in an era where Trump was a politician. At least Graham and other remember a time when the government wasn't a completely corrupted personal project of the president.

Things can always get worse.

At least Graham and other remember a time when the government wasn't a completely corrupted personal project of the president.

And yet he ignored all that.

76

Graham was the Senate Judiciary Committee chairman, he (along with McConnell, who was majority leader at the time) was directly responsible for the Republican takeover of the SCOTUS. Merrick Garland never got a confirmation vote because Graham never scheduled hearings. He made up some bullshit excuses for that, and then when RBG passed, he made some bullshit excuses to do a total 180 and get that pick approved before Trump left office.

He is just as responsible for the state of things today as Mitch was.

59

Reminder these younger republicans are like 50. They've experienced plenty of normal politics pre-Trump

lemmy.world

The writers dropping all those hints about Mitch was some incredible misdirection

60

Which ending? I'd take either that you were hinting at. An Arya ninja move from nowhere, or a Bran the Broken settlement. Either way, at least with reality we'll be able to see what's going on at night.

Wonderful way to start the day! 🎊🥳🌈. It just gets better from here! I am curious what “brief and sudden illness” this could be? Well, and is it catching?

Maybe they fed his lifeforce to Mitch to keep him alive another year.

Let's hope they do two or three other old Republicans! You know, just to be safe!

Hold up, I like the idea in principle but this might actually be how we end up with Mitch McConnell the God Emperor of Mankind

17

Maybe they fed his lifeforce to Mitch Trump to keep him alive another year.

3

Maybe it’s like the notebook, they both die together, beautiful

4

I, for one, would welcome a two-for-one deal on dead Republicans today.

Graham became well-known for his close ties with Trump, whom the senator briefly ran against for the presidential nomination in 2016.

Their relationship would begin on a rough note, with Graham calling the then-New York businessman “unfit for office.” Graham used a profanity to describe Trump after Trump made disparaging comments about Arizona Republican John McCain, Graham’s best friend in the Senate and a Vietnam War veteran.

During a campaign rally in South Carolina, Trump read out Graham’s personal cellphone number and continued to belittle him throughout the 2016 race

Graham, however, shifted significantly once Trump won the White House and emerged as one of Trump’s top allies — speaking with him frequently and becoming a regular presence on the golf course alongside the president

HAHAHAHA dumb bitch was "best friends with John McCain" and hated trump, but immediately rolled over like the lil bitch he is (was) when the fat fascist fuck came into power. Spineless coward, everything he did was to benefit himself and hurt others. Rot in hell, dipshit.

My condolences to the male escorts in the South Carolina and Washington DC areas.

I wonder if it's a bout of that explosive diarrhea causing parasite that's going around.

I genuinely do not want to start internet rumors so I'll say up front that I don't think there's enough evidence in the record to make a call.

But I think it looks fishy AF. A senator known to be hawkish on Russia, a country ruled by a regime known to use poisoning attacks against political enemies, dies of a "brief and sudden illness" right after visiting a country in which Russia is waging an open war. A senator who, rarely for Republicans, hasn't been willing to be as cosy with Russia as Trump wants to be. Russia had motive, and they may well have had opportunity.

3

Wasn't he touring a Ukrainian drone facility just the other day which just so happened to be bombed by Russia the other day too?

1

I think he came down with Distractonitis, a rare disease that appears when a colleague of yours dies but it has to stay a secret.

Mitch would HAVE to show up for this, and it’s going to make Weekend at Moscow Mitch way more difficult to pull off

Fuck yeah, perfect timing

28
lemmy.world

I don’t think anybody would expect McConnell to show up for that given his condition.

2

Did his conscience finally reach up to choke the life out of his brain?

Huh.

Anyway, I had some pretty good talapia for dinner tonight. Anyone else doing anything cool?

Yeah, I found an anime about a chainsmoking cat.

The one with cat? A friend insists it was made for me specifically, but, I also hate everything.

4

Cool! I’m not a big animal guy, but chain smoking cat sounds like it could be fun.

Everything Trump touches

Sen. Lindsey Graham has won his Republican primary in South Carolina, NBC News projects, after he spent millions to secure the nomination.

...

Graham, who is in his fourth term, got a boost from President Donald Trump, who endorsed him last year...

"Close ally" my ass... Those vile creatures have no allies, and in this particular case the hatred and lots of personal insults are well documented. For a lack of concepts for normal functioning human beings -because they are none- the only thing these corrupt idiots know and understand is what lie to scream loudly at every moment of their life to get the biggest amount of power and/or money.

12

I think he died of a broken heart after Trump stopped bombing Iran. Poor bastard should have just waited.

I'm trying really hard to think of an illness that takes someone out in 49hrs. And aside from a like, a heart attack, I can't really think of one.. There is that parasite in Texas but I didn't think it caused sudden death like that. Really kinda makes me lean towards poisoning or similar. Any ideas what it could be anyone?

You thought of one though. Also stroke, heart failure, pulmonary embolism, etc. Lots of things at his age.

Heart attack: https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/jul/12/lindsey-graham-key-ally-of-donald-trump-has-died-after-sudden-illness-his-office-says

Citing police scanner audio, the Washington Post newspaper reported that emergency medical services had received a call at about 8.30pm on Saturday regarding a person suffering chest pains at Graham’s home on Capitol Hill. About 25 minutes later, according to the Post, emergency personnel said CPR was in progress and a man was suffering cardiac arrest.

A Nascar driver recently died days after winning a race. Pneumonia leading to sepsis, he died within hours of becoming symptomatic.

Unfortunately there are things that can come out of nowhere, even for younger people. It's not common, but still a bit scary to think about. You can be fine one day and suddenly if you don't notice the symptoms early enough... Septic shock is a big one. Stroke and heart issues are others.

I was recently in the hospital for some necessary but non-emergency surgery. The guy I shared a room with was a hardscaper who had gotten some soil ground into a cut on his thumb while on the job. Two days later his hand and forearm were like a purple ballon and he was well on the way to septic shock. Luckily an IV infusion of antibiotics worked, and within 36 hours, he was more or less fine, though they had to remove some necrotic tissue from the thumb, which will probably leave a nasty scar.

My surgery left me with a 4-inch incision yet I went home before he did. He had a very close call. Sepsis can happen fast and can fuck you up badly. If he'd come in half a day later, he could have lost that arm or even died.

Heart attack and stroke happen suddenly, but there are usually (though not always) warning signs: high blood pressure, high blood LDL for extended periods, edema, weight problems. If you're free from those warning signs, your chances of suddenly keeling over are low, even in your 70s.

3

My mother was once hit from septic shock, and barely got through it. She waited thinking it was just something she ate or whatever, and had they waited another 30 mins to call 911, it would have been too late. Don't ignore your body tells.

2

How many horcruxes does McConnell have left after this?

7

I was thinking either AIDS or explosive concussion (conspiracy theory is he was in Ukraine on a tour of a weapons depot that was hit by a Russian missile)

2

I might believe in god. Take a few more of these assholes ( Trump, Vance, Turtle, etc) and I will run a church. I will become the fucking pope!
