Reddit now officially asks your ID for NSFW posts

It's a shame really, Porn, Interesting posts labeled as NSFW and NSFW profiles pretty much gone.

They ask you to verify with Persona who they say they keep your information for 3 days

I was about to recommend fedinsfw.app then saw your handle.

All I saw there (here?) was some really tame n boring crap. Reddit had every kink under the sun covered. Still waiting for that to happen here, but I don't think it's going to.

Literally all I can find is the normal "gonewild" stuff, with only a couple extra communities beyond that like "assholebehindthong." There are a couple pee communities, and even a futa/futanari comm, but they're so inactive it's ridiculous.

Which is a shame because the futa ones were popping off right after the API bullshit from a couple years ago.

20

Be the perv you want to see, i guess.

25

Well it's like that because fedinsfw.app is in its early days, but i actually felt that plenty of the stuff there is sort of kinky or extreme. There's just not a lot of stuff there full stop. So I would recommend you all start archiving your favourite stuff from reddit to prevent other people having the same reaction.

If reddit nsfw is inaccessible without giving your ID, i think you can get to the nsfw stuff via redlib? See redlib.catsarch.com and redlib.perennialte.ch

This adblock filter rule works for me

Are you allowed to post normally just like before, for me it's not about just seeing content but posting, commenting

3

Oh I don't want to make an account there.

Sometimes I get linked something that would otherwise be blocked.

I couldn't care less what happens on reddit honestly.

Oh I do, I thoroughly enjoy watching it crash and burn and fuck whoever is left.

I only read it via Redlib, and it's hilarious to see people who are relatively new users comment things like "wait, this site is bullshit!" as they discover all the things that drove me away years ago.

The moment they axed RiF I quit entirely. Right, I wasn't contributing much anyway...

Or just don't use Reddit. Like I haven't since I deleted my 15 year account in 2023 after that piece of shit, Spez, decided that money and enshittification mattered more to him than treating long-running app developers properly.

It's still crazy to me that they absolutely torpedoed their site contribution quality by doing that.

like I guess it didn't really matter because it was already half bots, but still

5

It was a fun site while it lasted. Then it became garbage. The only thing that could be worse for Reddit is if Musk ever buys it.

I have this fantasy where everyone in the world's kinks/fetishes get leaked at the same time. Since everyone has been doing it for years, we all just accept the freaks that everyone is, and nobody has to hide it anymore. Worldwide sexual liberation ensues, misogyny dies.

Inb4 some Linux nerd tells me about their proxies, everyone already knows you're a freak.

18

I wish that would change anything, but unfortunately I don't think it would. As a borrowed observation a lot of people like the shame associated with their kinks, and especially so for the ones who have a lot of social power. But also there are plenty of vanilla and sex repulsed asexual people out there and those who lack understanding of the rest of us can be extremely judgemental about it. Sometimes the strict enforcers of prudishness aren't denying too much, they just don't understand that they too are atypical.

But yeah it sounds like a really nice fantasy.

My fantasies include such things as women not recoiling in horror when I speak to them, and even going on a date with me.

Freaky, dirty, wild stuff.

VPN to Argentinia or Canada or something like this works btw. Or using old.reddit.com not logged in (they will turn that off too). Redlib also works, but I guess it will break too when they turn off old.reddit.com.

fedinsfw.app

VPNs can lead to a shadowban, I have also seen an extension for firefox but it doesn't do anything for me. I just want to post normally again

11

Full bans too, if that IP was banned and you post you get a ban evasion ban...

Good call, I just use it to view things so I didn't notice/didn't care about that part. Thanks for bringing that up.

3

To be fair I haven't tried it but I've seen others that did however there's also people that use it and didn't get ban but it can happen

3

VPN's can be hit or miss depending on what IP you connect to. I'm in Canada, usually connect to a Canadian VPN with a chain of IPs out of Montreal and it's hit or miss. either I can view reddit or it blocks me due to the VPN.

Safereddit/redlib works for now and has gotten better. only issue still is video playback lags but that's understandable.

Mh I thought they are locking down all options of viewing NSFW content without login when they turn off logged off access to old.reddit.com. Might have to read the article again, maybe just misinterpreted it.

1

Ecuador exit nodes seem to work the best for me from an overall internet experience. I don't know why but that is kinda weird to me.

1

I left after the last unfair ban. It's, conservatively, 70% bots at this point.

Not in Japan (at least on old reddit) per the sample size of me clicking to /new and finding 1 single NSFW link.

8

Same, on old reddit in Japan and it's the same as ever lol.

5

Germany seems to not be restricted, either. Or it's that my account is old enough to automatically be verified due to age.

2

Yeah, though I'm not sure of that might be affected by the rollout of needing to be logged in to view old.reddit.com at some point. I think next month.

4

Even after I left Reddit during the API fiasco, I did leave around an alt for sex and sexuality discussions. Nuked it some time afterwards when I noted the amount of real people talking had gone down really dramatically. Can't imagine the situation improving since.

Age verification? Welp, that does it - can't see why anyone would bother using it now!

5

Update: I somehow got NSFW posts back without verifying it could have been the extension I have who knows

I don’t get why people are so upset about this, your government already knows every single thing about you anyway, what is the harm in verifying you are you?

-46
YarrMateyreply
lemmy.dbzer0.com

Your government knows your ID, address, date of birth, bank information, credit cards, and such, I'm sure you wouldn't mind giving me all of this information? I need your personal information to "verify" you are you and then link your real identity to all of your account's activity for surveillance and sell that info for ads. I will protect your personal info very poorly so your info gets dumped on the internet for all to browse. /s

There's a million reasons why someone wants their info to stay more private. I'm an admin on lemmy, why the fuck should anyone give me their personal info?! Please web search about online privacy and why things like "nothing to hide" is such an ignorant take.

25
Icedrousreply
lemmy.ca

Your first part is irrelevant, you don’t need to know that. The government, wherever you live, whether you like it or not, knows everything about you. There’s no need to hide anything, and quite frankly if people are against digital ID verification, they obviously have something to hide.

-34

The point is that you are giving this info to persona and not to the government. A government-maintained age verification service that only provides platforms with the fact that you are of age and maybe your name would be optimal imo, but that's not what's happening here.

7

Your current logic is since the government knows your personal information, everyone should then share this information with every company or person that asks for it. I am an admin on lemmy, a social media site that would be required in some countries to do digital ID verification. You're saying that people should trust me with their personal info to verify their age or that they are human and allow them to continue using lemmy. I am a random person, just like Persona and the other random companies that do age verification. Persona has already had a leak btw. Do you trust Discord? You shouldn't since 70,000 IDs were leaked. Or how about IDMerit who exposed 1 billion records of PII?

If you have nothing to hide, then you shouldn't be afraid of me asking for your information I requested so that you can continue browsing lemmy uninterrupted. Do you see why your logic makes 0 sense? The government is not doing the age verification for reddit*, it is a random person like me doing it. You do have something to hide, because you refused to send me your personal info, you refuse to doxx yourself. And you should refuse, it is sane to refuse, that is why we all refuse digital ID verification. Please read the other comments as well, don't blindly accept the propaganda of the oppressors. I see your account is new, good luck learning new viewpoints.

*I don't trust the government to do the ID verification either to be clear, that is survellaince from a police state, the state is inherently violent. We have seen governments like the USian DOGE fumble basic shit during their survellaince.

2

Of course the government knows everything about us that is the reason why there are no criminals anymore. They get caught immediately and that scares all the people who otherwise would do crimes into not committing them.

Everybody knows that.

15

Governments want you to think they know everything about you but they really don't, although they relentlessly want to, which is why they pass all of these surveillance bills. For this case specifically, the verification is done by a company owned by Peter Thiel called Persona, not the government. In either case, no one should know everything about you because privacy is a human right.
