Nitrates and phosphates are fertilizer for algae. Things like decaying plant matter - dead leaves and grass cuttings should absolutely be kept away from the pool! Also it thrives with lots of sunlight so absolutely no shining mirrors to reflect extra light onto the water

All this algae love is a bit overdone dontcha think? It's not like it provides the freeking air we breathe or something...give it a rest.

I honestly wouldn't put it past Trump to start claiming he grew algae in the reflecting pool on purpose to improve the world's supply of oxygen. While also claiming Obama sabotaged it to make it turn green, of course.

Trump starts a war in the middle east ---> renewables get a boots

remodels reflection pool ---> biofuels

The water tanks used to grow the algae could be used as radiation shielding, so you're not wrong!

As someone who just came inside from mucking out a foot of algae sludge in the bottom of my pool that I hadn't opened in 3 years, screw team algae.
