We've found a rare modern loss that lasts until the punchline

I'm genuinely speechless

Oh, my bad. Not as OC. I was trying to disguise it like a normal comic, hence the transcript and “source” link.

Ernie Bushmiller would be SO confused by this if he went to the future and saw it.

Can I get a brief rundown of the meme? This has all gone over my head and a quick google search isn't really giving me a good explanation.

The meme is called Loss. There was a webcomic of... Questionable quality that was generally supposed to be humorous. At a certain point the author's wife had a miscarriage and he made a webcomic that portrays him entering the hospital, speaking to a receptionist, speaking to a doctor then walking in to find his wife in the bed in the last panel. It has been memed since then, and abstracted to various shapes ( | || || |_ ) following the general visual lines present in the original comic

In addition to the below, here's a visual explanation:

The author made an edit years later acknowledging its meme status:

It should really have been titled "Gain" rather than "Found", but whatever.

If You replace the characters with Rick Astley, the meme will be immortal.

Very nice source. Thanks for citing it and giving the author credit

If you're not aware, this is a combination of a Nancy comic and a ctrl alt del comic, combined into a new joke by an unknown author. It's a meme at this point, not a comic, so it's unreasonable to expect attribution to be there for both known authors (but reasonable to ask in a non-sarcastic manner)

Oh I'm well aware. I just wanted to get more people to see the other loss in the Source spoiler

That’s from a web comic this comic in particular went viral as a meme. It’s called Loss and now that you’ve seen it, you’ll see it everywhere. Sometimes it’s just represented with lines or dots.

Check out the Wikipedia article on it, the meme section will show you how you might encounter it.

So are we to believe the banker gave her the loan, bought her ice cream, and is now charging her interest on the $2?

Nah once the banker knew the circus was in town and she was excited to see it, he just had to promise her ice cream to get her in the van.

it was shit to begin with

I mean, yeah, that was the point. It was an attempt at deriving value from the least funny CAD comic to date.

Speaking of deriving value from things that aren't funny, your comment makes posting Loss memes so much more entertaining.
