I absolutely hate instagram. They have to make it impossible to get a damn link to anything w/o their shitty app. If anyone has insta and wants to drop the direct link to the comic just out of reach, I’ll update the description.

68

I, too, hate Instagram. One of the social media sites that tries to lure kids into their van really aggressively. I’m just looking, damn.

9

No need. Facebook owns them. You don't need to "support the artist" by linking there.

I'll die on this hill.

If someone posts to truth social, and it's funny, fuck em. I don't care to give Trump's corrupt, shitty family the publicity.

5

If you pull up the artists instagram page on mobile if you click any post it redirects you to the App Store to download the app. Couldn’t figure out how to just get the link for the post because even an open in new tab was a redirect to the App Store.

The difference of "working for a life" and "working for a living".

One afternoon a lawyer was riding in his limousine through town when he saw an old client and friend, Joe, in the park eating grass.

Troubled, he asked his driver to stop and rolled down his window to shout, "Hey Joe! Why are you eating grass?"

"We don't have any money for food," Joe replied gesturing towards his family close by. "We have to eat grass."

"Well, then, you can come with me to my house and I'll feed you," the lawyer said.

"Thank you sir," Joe replied. "But I also I have a wife and two children with me."

"Bring them along," the lawyer cheerily replied.

They all entered the car and zipped off to the lawyers home.

On the way, Joe turned to the lawyer and said, "Sir, you are too kind. Thank you for taking all of us with you."

The lawyer replied, "Glad to do it, Joe! You'll really love my place. The grass there is at least a foot high."

Weeds are often more nutritious than straight grass.

Southern culture even made it local cuisine, out of economic necessity, like poke(weed) sallet.

Similarly, I can't imagine someone started eating collard greens because they tasted better than more standard vegetables.

16

There are a lot of plants we consider weeds that used to be cultivated as staple crops. Industrialization meant only the most productive species got attention for mechanization. Less productive species fell out of favour and now are kind of lost knowledge.

Lamb's quarters: also called goosefoot or wild spinach. It's related to quinoa and both the seeds and the leaves were eaten.

Purslane: grows in poor soils and is hardy. Still used in Mediterranean cooking but is considered a garden weed in a lot of the world

Dandelions and amaranth: both were cultivated, and most amaranth varieties are considered weeds now

Sorrel: tough leafy green with a tangy flavour used prior to citrus in Europe.

Ground elder: hated by gardeners and farmers. A nice spring leafy green planted around monestaries

Mallow: used to thicken soups and stews. Still used in the middle east and Mediterranean but is considered a weed elsewhere.

Nettles: you've probably heard of this one? Not farmed anymore to my knowledge.

6

That can't be true, hunger and hardship are brand new inventions... "then" everything was amazing and no one had problems.

I need to work hard for them:

  • CEOs

  • Landlords

  • Billionaires

  • Corrupt governments

34

The thing that bothers me the most: Exactly how much of my time is spent supporting a giant child grooming program for young girls.

Like I'd sort of come to terms with my taxes going to orphan killing machine and I felt like a bad person, but could live.

Now they want to relive Jim Crow and it's all a bit much tbh

5

add pedo billionaires sitting at a classy table balanced on his head with some sort of visual partition so they don't have to see him

15

American here - Definitely don't get six weeks a year, and even if I did I am sure I would be guilt tripped into not using it, or so buried by the workload when I return that I would avoid using it on purpose due to lack of cross coverage / duplication.

Are we great yet? Too tired to tell.

6

You have to save up to afford that pack of hamburgers to grill on Memorial Day, or the turkey for Thanksgiving. If you scrimp and save all year, you might even be and to afford to put a present or two under the Christmas Tree.

2

The corruption of the American Dream. To be so obsessed with saving money and growing your fortune that you forget who you're even doing it for.

I believe the image is more about young folks today not having enough money to even start a family. Because of wealth hoarding, but by billionaires, not this guy. The use of "holiday" rather than "medical debt" and "student debt" leads me to think it's not about America at all.

20
lemmy.dbzer0.com

Also, Americans tend not to use “holiday”, we say “vacation” unless we are talking about a specific day which is a holiday, which doesn't really fit this context. Most of them aren't big spends, other than Christmas.

young folks today not having enough money to even start a family

Some of the poorest people are forming the largest families, thanks to the segregated access to contraception tools and abortion services.

The use of “holiday” rather than “medical debt” and “student debt” leads me to think it’s not about America at all.

It is an American idea that's been spread abroad by American media and commercial business.

Because of wealth hoarding, but by billionaires

30% of billionaires is American. Another 7% are in the US occupied state of Germany, with Italy, Canada, Taiwan, the UK, and France hosting 3% / 3% / 2% / 2% / 1.5% respectively.

The American Empire is the source of the Billionaire scourge.

-1

Pretty sure the billionaire scourge is worldwide and the list of worst dragons excludes royalty (looking at you, Thailand, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, etc) which tilts the numbers toward the US.

But as for the OP, people in the US don't use "holiday." We have a couple weeks of "vacation " annually if we're lucky. So the source is from elsewhere.

5

Are we sure about those numbers? Last I checked, China has more billionaires than the U.S.

Lucky! Our stable climate is beyond fucked and industrial global society will probably cease to function, so soon you won't even have to think about these things! 😊

7

Or you'll just have more things to think about. The future is usually more complicated than we expect.

4

You had 3 kids, a moustache and a wife

Where'd they go? Did shaving cause you to lose everything?

4

Yes, but you'll be able to get AI filters (premium subscriptions only) that make it look like you're eating chicken when you're eating grass.

2

There are only large corporations, why would your boss do HR? That's a different department. Plus your boss is lower middle management AT BEST.

If you're stressed by installments and holidays maybe stop spending money on that, the before picture didn't.

Yes, the billionaires are getting more and more rich not because they steal from the poor, but because they can just poop money out of their ass whenever they want to.

Definitely nothing has changed since the 80s.

Poor people just need to learn how to poop money too.

6

Poor people just need to learn how to poop money too.

The problem is compound growth favors incumbent wealth. The relative gap will always grow even if everyone is investing in the same etfs.

This drives inflation which disproportionately affects the poor, as we have massive amount of capital gains chasing production of goods that haven't followed the same compound growth (we see this manifest in stats like almost half of consumption is driven by top 10%).

It's gonna get to the point where you can try to do everything right as even upper middle class, and still not afford staple goods. At that point, heads WILL roll. But the rich are trying their best to employ contingencies like AI/drones to secure their greed.

I never said billionaires aren't robbing the rest, especially in the US. My point is you can do things yourself to not dig the hole deeper. And vote for a higher taxes to the rich, wealth tax and a bunch of others. You can walk and chew gum, can you?

-2

vote for a higher taxes to the rich

LMAO 🤣🤣🤣 How do you think we got to this point, my sweet summer child?

Because everyone was voting to become poorer and tax the rich less?

Oh my god, how genius you are! How the fuck did we not think of VOTING for a better life...

3

Because everyone was voting to become poorer and tax the rich less?

Yes, unironically, emphatically, yes. Project 2025 was less than 2 years ago, already forgot about that?
