Replaced my Microwave Today

Our microwave kept blowing the breaker even after repairs, so I (somehow) found a perfect used one on Craigslist and replaced it today.

Surprisingly easy to remove the old one and remount it, plus I saved several hundred dollars in appliance and installation costs.

I had a 6 year old bosch die on me. Turns out almost all microwaves are made by the same two Chinese companies regardless of name brand. They are all trash now.

Yup and once you know this you start seeing the same design everywhere.

The crazy part is, the microwaves I've used in China are good, 2 knobs, one for wattage, the other for time. There are good models, but why import them when you can import 10 types of cheap ones and brand half them as luxury?

This literally looks like my kitchen and it really freaked me out for a second.

It's probably similar appliances and style for sure. Our house was a flip after foreclosure, so everything is the Home Depot special.

I had a GE like that for a long time, great microwave.

Now I’ve got a Frigidaire and it cooks well but god damn do they make the “foods done” beeps annoying as hell. You’d think I’d left my seatbelt off…

May this one last you as long as my last one did. (nearly 43 years)

Man. You're in for a rude awakening when modern life comes knocking.😭

Oh I know. Mine finally crapped out a few weeks ago and I'm not happy about the prospect of a new one. I'm hoping to be able to fix it but I haven't had the time to try yet.

I have an 8 year old Bosch microwave I got off Nextdoor a few years ago for $50. Its been pretty solid with the only thing I had to do to it was remove the inside cosmetic plastic on the door to get to the screws to tighten the handle. We had a builder grade GE microwave I didn't like (that was 11 years old) and we sold it on Nextdoor for.....$50.

My first microwave, I bought in 1985, lasted over twenty-five years, and may still be working--I foolishly gave it away because I wanted a bigger one. Every microwave since then lasts about seven years. Same for every other household appliance from what I've read.

Incredibly frustrating. Planned obsolescence drives me insane, which is a big reason I've started specifically shopping used in the last few years.

After seeing so many embarrassing pics of things caught in a reflection I would be scared to death to take that pic.

I have exactly that one you put on. It's a good one. Anemic fan but otherwise awesome. Nice find and solid installation.

On Craigslist, even! I can only deduce that your searching was under some auspicious alignment of heavenly bodies! 😜
