What are some weird corners of the internet you've stumbled across?

I don't mean gross stuff like SomethingAweful.

I'm talking someone's fever dream neocities page that details how to make a UFO engine using element 115.

A blog that is wild conspiracy stuff that has aged like fine wine.

Or some serial forum post that makes no sense but seems too complex to be performative.

17776 is a good example, if you're not familiar.

It's not really that weird, but is a funny classic (around for at least 25 years) and I am still not completely sure if it is meant seriously or not.

It's basically a very detailed online course on how to apply butter to a pretzel:

I like it. It's fun. But, is it normal to slice a pretzel in half laterally like that?

It's the most popular take-away snack food in Southern Germany, so yeah, totally common!
It's also the most stereo-typical Bavarian food that I know of, besides Weißwurst.

In my city there are even booths scattered all over town selling nothing but sliced pretzels filled with dozens of different topings you can choose from.

The butter one is still GOAT, though.
You can get it in every bakery.

But how would I ever find this....Lemmy? It sounds so strange and mysterious!

I don't want to know what they have to say, I want to know what Lemmites have to say.

Reddit would say "The Fediverse" anyway.

A self-described genius decides that marine reserves do not work, and creates his own parallel science theories to explain trends in marine science. His most important discovery: The Dark Decay Assay which I think is him putting seawater in a test tube and measuring its pH over time.

I visited his laboratory/cafe/aquarium in real life, just out of curiosity. Almost all the aquariums were empty, and they served me the worst coffee I've ever had.

Yeah, I had to look up a video of the old song and now I totally remember seeing this site literally 20ish years ago.

I know it will upset people to say, but I like both songs. BUT - the original site was specific satire. The new song is epic, but doesn't have the same social critique.

This song just radicalized me to whatever happens when the "loading" bar finishes.

Edit: And now I'm part of the inner circle, so that's cool. I'm going to put that on my resume.

I found out about icum.to (not porn but does have at least one NSFW image) on Lemmy at some point. It has some pretty good videos and the website is interesting but also a little weird. I've definitely been amused looking about.

Wow, this young woman has recreated the vibe of 1999 internet perfectly. I'm all in.

Thank you - I love these all.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to get footprints on the walls!

I've been listening to "unintentional ASMR" to help me go to sleep for about a decade now, and I really like "woo ASMR" stuff. Think palm-reading, reiki, kooky chiropractors, "spiritual healers", etc. It's all nonsense, of course, but it can be very relaxing nonsense!

Some years ago I came across this dude, called Steven/Stephen (?), who goes by Stephen J. Christ and makes videos about the "dome world" (which is like flat earth but not really, it's way more complex and involves the Old Testament, lol) and his "seal" (just some drawing and arithmetics meant to inspire some sort of religious zeal but it's just pretty nonsense). The dude's obviously schizophrenic and completely delusional (he's not stupid, his brain is just broken but you can see the neurons work), thinks he's the "second coming of Christ" in earnest, that Trump should stop his evil ways and let him take over the country already... Anyway, he was the sole actor of a failed attempt at Trump's life, ended up in jail and then, sadly, passed away because of some medical complications.

His OG YouTube channel is no longer available but some uhh fans have created some alternative channels, and new videos are still posted regularly (I think in a similar vein to Viper's YT channel). Here are some examples of his work:

"Woo ASMR"? Holy Stephen J Christ, I'm in. Hell, I think I could be making videos like this.

And yeah, this has a very schitzoid kind of feel to it. Sliiightly creepy, like it will slip into my head if I listen to this too long...but I can't not.

2

Haha ikr? Very "head of a cult" vibes, but it consistently has me snoring in under 5 mins. 😅

The official website of the KGB of Belarus. It's still up today (kgb.by), but I used the Wayback Machine because I don't trust that and also it's http. It's still designed like it's from 2000.

I went to the grocery store one evening and as I was walking towards the store, some guy pulled into the parking lot in one of those creepy old white vans. It was plastered with bible verses, stuff about anti LGBTQ+, anyone not Christian is evil, etc. It had a few pro Russia anti Ukraine stickers. I snapped a quick few pictures of the van and went grocery shopping. Guy looked like a typical religious weirdo so whatever.

Later, I was looking at the pics and saw a website. I went to the website and it’s the weirdest fucking shit I’ve ever seen. Like old geocities style all about how to identify the antichrist, anti trans, anti vaccine, anti climate change, anti science everything, just so much crazy conspiracy theory nonsense. I bookmarked it and saved a pdf copy of the website so I can go back once in a while and see if he updates it.

It was just so fucking weird that I wouldn’t be surprised if dude was involved in some weird pedo religious BS.
