that's not a question I'm qualified to answer

calls herself "Doctor" in the imaginary film

Well make up your mind, lady.

Obviously a mad scientist, so both qualified and not qualified at the same time.

She's just playing along. Her care provider asked her to answer a question that a trained medical professional should be answering, so she came up with a scenario where she was one.

For transfeminine folks, too much estrogen can be a bad thing. This is because estrogen and testosterone can be converted between each other in the body. Too much estrogen can lead to more testosterone.

hey there, I was hoping you could edit your comment to remove this misinformation, only testostetrone can be converted to estrogen through aromatization (basically this enzyme aromatase converts the excess T into E). Excess estrogen does not convert to testosterone in the body.

here's a chart showing the sex steroid pathways: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sex_hormone#/media/File:Steroidogenesis.svg

Notice testosterone can convert to DHT (Dihydrotestosterone, which causes baldness), and estradiol (estrogen), but there is no pathway from estradiol back to testosterone.

Changed! Really appreciate you commenting to point this out. To get a bit meta on you, I really love that you corrected me, because that's a perfect microcosm of the iterative knowledge building that leads to robust networks of community learning.

thanks for being so receptive to correction!

and yeah, definitely love when a group is able to help fill in gaps - I owe so much to internet communities (Wikipedia being an extreme version of this dynamic)

Yes, to be clear, this is a joke! I don’t think you’re a buzzkill, thank you for sharing good and useful information :)

this is bullshit, estrogen doesn't convert into testosterone. people often make this assumption because it's true for the T to E pathway

13

My understanding was that it wouldn't convert to T, but it will suppress its own effects and be less feminizing than a lower dose. This lines up with my experience where it felt like my progress stalled without reverting. E is much safer than T in that you can have much higher levels without causing serious complications, but you still want to be in a sweet spot.

Yeah, that was an error and I corrected it. Apologies for inadvertently spreading misinformation, but thank you for calling me out on it, because that's an important part of how we build communities of learning

I mean, I'm sure you can just stick your tongue in it. Won't hurt you. Well, I hope not.

I wonder if more people know the words for bunsens and beakers than erlenmeyer flasks because of the muppets. Could've slapped Erlenmeyer on as Beaker's first name, even if they didn't use it much. Dunno why Dr Honeydew got a first name and not Beaker.

6

Because they don't appreciate our baby Beaker nearly as much as they should!!

Hey I'm way off topic but.... Is that the final fantasy crystal chronicles selkie logo? Deeply underappreciated game, that

I never minded carrying the lantern as long as I got to adventure with my friends. We still took turns though.

I think the doc was fishing for vague answers like "a little higher" or "a lot higher"

Not precise amounts
