Replaced a shed pimple handle on a 2 way screw for a proper handle on 4 bolts and washers.
Previous handle was a pimple on a 2 way screw (no idea what these are called or how it was still holding on) so replaced it with one on 4 bolts on washers for a better grip.
After taking it off it appears that the screw was "sealed" in some sort of wood filler.

The bolts you used are called "carriage bolts". They have a square "neck" under the round head to give them grip once they get into the wood.
You may want to make a square slit in the handle plate so the head is flushed.
Thanks for the tip, it does look a bit odd that those bolts are peeking out a little, but don't think i have a tool for doing that (out of interest what do you normally use to do it?) to the metal handle. If i have something to use for it il do it :)
You could do it with a triangle file too.
Depending on the metal you may be able to just broach it with the bolt itself.
Looking at the pictures I think the wood will break before the bolt cuts into the metal.
Yeah the nuts are cutting into the wood. OP would have to do something different to broach.
The wood is too soft here unfortunately, i tried a little but stopped when the washers started to dig into the wood

Assschually the square bit is for a square hole in metal plate, not the wood itself, so you dont have to hold the other end when tightening the but.
That being said ive misused them all kinds of ways
So these bolts are supposed to be exclusively used to fix metal sheets to wood? Interesting!

Looks like an overkill. But why not? Imagine archeologists in the year of 4740 would find a "proper handle" in the middle of nowhere without any signs of settlement nearby. Just a proper handle on 4 bolts and nothing else...
Doubt it, its low quality metal, claims to be outdoor, but I highly doubt it. But really the reason for going that far is because the shed and the door are wooden and when it rains, the door expands and becomes hard to open. So I wanted a handle I can really yank without worrying about pulling it out (unlike the pimple that was on there before). I do want to change this entire shed but being realistic its a 10-15 year plan budget wise, so the handle only needs to last until then.
