Eh, but if it had the range of motion of those outer toes, it could swing out of the way pretty well and maybe even toss the spear while flying, making it a strange looking but effective adaptation... 🤔

Having just finished Reaper Man from the Discworld series, now I'm imagining that due to fauxpseudo removing so many Heathcliffs, the universe now has an unsustainable surplus of free Heathcliffs and is randomly inserting them through history to try an rebalance itself!

I think it's actually depicting a hoplite that used an owl as his motif. An ancient Greek furry progenitor if you will.
