You had me look it up as I had assumed she was English, and learned that her mother was of French and Scottish descent...

I'd like to join in the apology, from the other side of the channel. It sucks that the Auld Alliance's legacy is tainted by this terf piece of shit.

You're not responsible for awful people who happen to have been born on the same plot of dirt as you (as an American, I really need this to be true)

As long as you're not actually taking full responsibility for everyone ever born in the country you happen to have been born in, then that's fine.

I tend to read it as "they do not speak for me". If you don't speak up, then many people believe you agree with them, by default.

By apologising, you are saying you actively disagree, but don't want to get bogged down in the details. You might not stand directly with the victims, but you do stand beside them, against the abusers, and want them to know.

It still makes me uncomfortable how many people see her in a positive light here

"Harry Potter and the Myth of Consensual Sex" would have sold better.

67

"Testis tortius!" - screamed Harry at the awful trans ally male, Draco. Draco begun screaming out from his throat, while slowly collapsing onto the floor, where he started vomiting from the intense pain.

"Why Harry, why? What kind of arguments you have against trans women?" - ejaculated Draco.

"They wanted to make the writer of this book JK Rowling pay taxes!" - ejaculated Harry - "They didn't even treat her token approach for diversity like the second best thing ever. Now look at us: I am the Gigachad wizard cop, and you're the soyjak suffering from testicular tortion!"

Just a damn shame, really. For all the criticisms of the Harry Potter books over the years, I still hold dear to my heart the memories of reading them, watching the adaptions, and listening to the Jim Dale audiobooks. But those memories are irrevocably tarnished knowing who the author turned out to be. What young adult me saw as a progressive subtext now reads a whole lot more conservative and conformist.

yeah, there is a lot of veiled/coded bigotry in that series

33

Not even veiled, just not obvious when we were kids. I still think the positive impact of a lot of the message is a net good, despite the author being a mold-brained bigot unable to see past her own trauma. However, I will not be giving any of my money to her IP until she's dead and gone and it won't be used for harm anymore.

i dont mean this as an offence.

if you don't want to do it in general, you should also not do it to horrible people. same way you would probably still not misgender a trans person, even if they are horrible.

(insert that meme where the insult is reflected off the target and hits an innocent bystander, who shares the same attribute)

jk looks objectively fine. i too find horrible people immediatly 10 times more ugly, but that is not their actual physical appearance.

Yeah, honestly that's just a horrible picture that's also been compressed badly.

If only this were true. Hateful evil people seem to live for-fucking-ever.

8

Well every minute they're alive feels like an eternity, even if they die early. The peak age of death is 84, even though the average is lower. If Trump dies before that age while getting the best healthcare in the world, it will still feel like he lived forever.

Help the uneducated, what's the flag in the middle of the picture?

You reached the end
