I haven't forgotten all the suffering this man caused. I hope he enjoys those flames in hell. I still can't believe he was an honored guest on the Dem national platform because Trump is evil. One less war criminal more to go.

One of the chief architects of our current fascist state, only fighting against it when it became clear he was not going to be in charge of it. A vile person who exploited American grief in order to profiteer on the deaths of millions. Fuck him and good riddance.

He didn't even "fight against it." His daughter, who is still a piece of shit, might have. Kind of.

Ah the good old times when we thought it couldn't get any eviler than Cheney...

42

Honestly, we might have been right. Cheney can't compete for pure destructive stupidity, but for outright malignant evil, I think he still holds his own.

If there is anyone who deserves to eternally burn in a perpetual form of suffering in an afterlife, its this piece of shit human being.

Ding Dong the Dick is dead, the wicked Dick. Which old Dick? The wicked Dick.

He's gone below where the goblins go.

21

You posted this a few seconds before I read it, which means Ding Dong the Dick is Dead likely was playing in both our heads at the same time! I wish it was possible to know many people heard (or sang!) that song just now.

84 is pretty much the average life expectancy for a man in the US, isn't it? Or at least for wealthy men in the US.

1

Yes.

His should have been shorter, given his heart replacement, and you know just being a piece of shit. But life isn't fair.

4

No. For a male in the US average life expectancy is closer to 76.

3

Damn. I believe it used to be 80, but the pandemic (and everything else) must've shortened that.

1
lemmy.world

Damn. 5 more years of trump on this planet. Can he please be expedited? Next week or tomorrow, or in 5 minutes or as soon as I click "submit" on this comment would be great.

3

This just doesn't have the same punch I was hoping it would when reading.

Needs a few dozen others in the obituary now.

Many will forget that in the wake of Nixon's resignation, WH staffers Cheney and Roger Ailes decided that it was the fault of the "liberal Hollywood media" for relentlessly hammering the Republicans (for their crimes).

So they conceived a Conservative Propaganda Machine to get their message out. First they found Rush Limbaugh, and started to syndicate him across the country. Conservative talk radio was everywhere, but several limited by the Fairness Doctrine.

Reagan abolished the Fairness Doctrine in 1987, and instantly radio stations across the country went to 24 hour conservative talk, with Limbaugh as the anchor.

In the early 90s, with Roger Ailes producing, they tried a 30 minute TV show, to run following the news, so conservative viewers didn't have to go from the news directly to a late night talk show bashing Republicans. It ran for about a year, but they quit because it too much for Rush to do a 3 hour live radio show, then a half hour live TV show, but it was proof of concept.

With that success, they launched Fox News in 1977 1997, and that became the tentpole of the Conservative Propaganda Machine.

If they had a time machine the whole time why bother with all this?

5

Sorry, I meant 1997, but fat-fingered this new phone. Still a year off, but close enough for going off my mental notes.

The point remains - rather than remembering Cheney for opposing Trump at the end, remember that he devised and built the Conservative Propaganda Machine, which has lied and cheated relentlessly, and allowed the rise of the worst brand of Sociopathic Oligarchs, and the scummiest form of Republicans that he eventually opposed. He holds a lot of the responsibility for MAGA.

4

"influential"—his "influence" was war crimes. He was a war criminal vice president.

Not a religious or spiritual sort, but from the first time I saw him during the election as VP candidate, I truly sensed evil. Good riddance

Yes. Not to whitewash GWB at all but Cheney was the true evil of that administration

19
sh.itjust.works

It was clear to anyone paying attention. GWB was a patsy. Doddering idiot.

By all accounts he had a good heart, but terrible friends and family.

Cheney took the opportunity to run the presidency from the shadows, and did great evil in GWB's name.

With that said, they both barely hold a candle to the evil of the current admin.

Don't give GWB that much credit, he was playing up the bumbling idiot schtick as a smokescreen for what was going on behind the scenes

17

Certainly could be true.

He did evil, whether he was putting on a show for it or genuinely an idiot, he performed a lot of evil.

7

He lost his first campaign because he was “that egghead from Harvard.”

He certainly recalibrated and leaned into a fake Texan accent after that.

Whether he is an actual bumblefuck I can’t say. He’s certainly a legacy admission.

I'd put Karl Rove ahead of W. He was, in Bush's own words, "the architect", of such things as the Iraq war.

4

True, but Bush put him in the position and enabled him. Shit rolls down hill and Bush was at the top.

3

Hence the "not to whitewash" qualifier there, definitely not absolving him

4

Lol at least my day is a little bit brighter

The neocons were some of the most dangerous because they were smart and quiet. Now our dangerous right wingers are zealous and stupid and loud. Which…I mean, neither are good. Fascists gonna fascist

9

You should never say bad things about the dead, you should only say good . . . [Dick Cheney] is dead. Good.

When they committed their evil outside of the country on foreign soil where it didn't directly affect you

9

Hope all the people who died in the Iraq war do this to him in the afterlife.

6

I don't buy it. Has anyone checked for horcruxes or phylacteries? Any pets nearby he was unusual close with?

5

It's times like this, that I really wish I believed in Hell. If it exists, he's having a very bad time right now.

4

I'm always torn. Should I join in and provide my "thoughts and prayers", or should I ignore such deaths, not comment, and hope this news passes from the feeds?

Well, I guess I made my choice, because I commented. So, thanks for nothing, Dick, and fuck you for all the harm you caused. Good riddance.

3

That guy was a warmonger and opportunist, but I like his daughter.

Sure, I'll just dig around for old threads from more than a year ago in order to provide examples of centrists being happy with dick cheney's endorsement just to have you immediately dismiss them and demand more.

Yeah, lemmy's responsive enough to do that quickly and you're not just trying to waste my time in bad faith.

Demands to prove the obvious just because you know doing so would be a huge pain in the ass? Yeah, the people I described have already downvoted me.
