Ah yes, Sharter. The shittiest ISP I've ever used. I recall when they said they were doubling speeds and my first thought was that they either:

  1. Made so much profit off their customers they could afford to upgrade their network
  2. Could always support the load and just chose to limit their customers
  3. Were overpromising speeds they had no hope of fulfilling.

Also, going from 5Mbps to 10Mbps upload was insulting when a competitor offered 140Mbps symmetrical for less.

I'm surprised it took so long. I suppose sports and local news is why people still have it? I dunno, I dumped cable TV over 15 years ago, it stopped being worth the money for me back then.

My kid is 27, and he doesn't watch TV shows at all, and rarely watches movies. It's all about online games for him, and has been for years. I'm pretty sure the last movie he saw in a theater was the first Deadpool, which he and his friend asked me to take them to.

Ziply has been laying fiber in my neighborhood, can't wait to ditch Xfinity's monopoly bullshit.

This might explain why Comcast was so desperate to add their NowTV service to my subscription when I went to get a new deal a few weeks ago. They kept pushing it and I kept saying no I don't want any services aside from Internet. But in the end I relented because the overall price was going to go way down. They are probably counting me as a cable TV customer to put a tiny dent in their hemorrhaging subscription counts.

Moved recently. My old place had only Comcast cable and AT&T DSL available. At the new place, I got 1 gigabit fiber from TDS for $10 less than I was paying for 300mbit with Comcast. When I called to cancel Comcast, they of course did their won't-take-3-no's-for-an-answer script. They even (finally) offered to do an additional $10 less than TDS for gigabit. I still said no.

Honestly, if their initial response had been "how much are they charging you? We'll beat it", I might have considered staying, but that I had to say no multiple times even after telling them I was getting a comedically better deal is just so emblematic of every interaction with them. I don't want to talk to your service rep any more than they want to be yelled at by the caller after me.

I probably wouldn't use TV service from either even if it was included for free.
