Oh shit, that reminds me- I've got a turt stomping appointment at 2:30.

1

There's also hypercorrectioncorrection: I've had people tell me "piñata" is wrong and it's actually "pinata" without the y sound.

At least it wasn't "que", which I've seen far too often.

Disgusting that this is who superbowl picked for their halftime show.. Claims to be a bunny, but turns out he's just some human dude. Typical.

So.... would you say he's pretty bad at being a bunny? Like he's a bad bunny?

The worst bunny I've ever seen!

21
lemmy.world

And have you heard him perform? His music may not be your preferred style but you'd be hard pressed to call it 'bad'.

7

Generally, when it comes to genres that I dislike, I cannot tell the difference between good and bad.

4

That's the only thing about him that upsets me: his music sounds nothing like his name implies.

3

I am, of course, disgusted with this choice of Super Bowl halftime performer.

The obvious choice was to have Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce get married during the Super Bowl halftime, during which Taylor will not take the Kelce name, killing everyone watching over the age of 65.

Travis takes the name Swift. Conservative men melt down so badly that one of them goes out and blows Erika Kirk's head off.

I am, of course, disgusted with your proposed choice of Super Bowl halftime performer.

The even more obvious choice was to have Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce enter a civil union during the Super Bowl halftime, during which Taylor will not take the Kelce name while also announcing she is 4 months pregnant and the unborn child should be referred to as "they/them", killing nearly 40% of all viewers.

Hmm, this got me to look up the demonym for people from Barbados. I hoped it would be something interesting, but the official one is pretty boring: Barbadians. But, the unofficial one is a bit interesting: Bajans. I thought it would be pronounced like the Spanish "baja", but apparently it's "Bay - jenz". Which is a bit cool. Not as cool as their flag, but still cool.

14

yessss i can say i like music from barbados with confidence now, never having been to nor googled barbadosian music

Hey - Hitler also had the autobahn built (granted, it started before him, but it was a vital part of the nazis plans, and they carried on with it) and the nazis had grand plans for infrastructure - most of which never realized because they were also fucking idiots who took on pretty much the entire rest of the world in war.

Trump hasn't even done THAT. Where are America's big infrastructure investments? The nazis started a war that fucked them so they couldn't really do anything they planned, but they at least had plans to improve one aspect of the country and its economy. Trump on the other hand is doing the whole genocide part, but you can't really find any upside in his governance.

I'm not trying to praise Hitler here either, I'm just saying... the current US president has done less for his people than Adolf Fucking Hitler did for his.

7

The Nazis also did modern art exhibits! To show everyone how bad this "entartete Kunst" was, but it seems they didn't know about the Streisand effect.

4

Krasnov could shoot the President of Puerto Rico on 5th avenue and it wouldn't lose him any votes.

Trump didn't know during his first term, acted like giving aid for the hurricane disaster was charity to a foreign country.

Trump received backlash after he claimed during a series of tweets on Tuesday morning that Puerto Rico only takes from the United States.

10

I mean he doesn't even want to give aid to his own country. Doesn't even seem particularly gung-ho about it when it's a state that's voting "right".

3
ttrpg.network

It's upsetting that people can be colossally stupid and factually incorrect and face no meaningful consequences. Like, who is the OP? Why are they just walking around without a warning sign that says like "This person is stupid"?

44

It is so wild how consistently I can know someone is an ignorant tear, scaling directly in level of ignorance proportionate to how many/how big their American flags are.

7

I live in the Philadelphia suburbs and it's crazy how many times I'm behind some dickhead with a red hat and I assume it's a MAGA hat only to find out it's a Phillies hat. I've actually never once seen a MAGA hat here.

5

Yeah, I learned this about that age when it was announced that our state (SD) was 51st in the nation for teacher pay after PR. That's also about the time a neighboring county had the highest suicide rate in the world. Good ol' Midwestern values.

They receive a lot of benefits as a territory. And whether the Hispanic media portrays it or not, they are a very impoverished community. Them declaring independence is never gonna happen.

12

Arguably we should remove the quotes so they get actual benefits. PR deserves better from us

7

Ikr? Cuba is thriving so much despite all the embargo on it and countries that do business with it. US never bullies or destabilize region and countries for their benefits, especially their neighbors.

If someone receives US "benefits", it must thrive at all cost, like Afghanistan.

1

There's at least two possible outcomes when someone(s) receives aid:

  1. They use it as a stepping stone towards becoming independent, and it's temporary
  2. They feel entitled to it and become habituated towards receiving aid and it cements their dependence

Same problem with food stamps, etc. some people use it as a hand-out, some people use it as a hand-up. You can't really help one group without helping the other, unfortunately.

I never learned any Spanish. I can barely guess at some meaning when its written thanks to learning French and random other bits and pieces of romance languages getting stuck in my head at some points.

So now that you wrote it out, yeah I guess that would be obvious, when she says they dance like that in Barranquilla. But there's no chance I would have ever heard that 😁

Racists are racist because they're dumb

Even my dumb fucking rural Australian ass knows that Puerto Rico is part of the US.

11

As a dum rural American that knows territorial citizenship is a thing (with wonky caveats not applicable to Puerto Rico) you’d be surprised how many Americans in general have zero clue pr is a part of the us. My last vaca there was fun but after I was back the amount of people that asked about passports was too dam high. And this is in a rather educated metro area.

I always find it remarkable how trivial topics can be so successful on every social media platform—yes, even here.

This is basically proof that fascists have already won, because instead of dealing with the important issues—in the US, for example, the unbelievable corruption of the regime, the obvious establishment of a secret police force in the form of ICE, the completely illegal deployment of troops to oppress the population, which is actually very successful (+ many more outrageously important things)—people are focusing their attention on who will perform at the goddamn Super Bowl halftime show—and they even think they're outsmarting the fascists when they point out for the millionth time that their bullshit is just that—utter bullshit.

It's just sad that nothing has changed since Goebbels. The logic is still the same and people continue to fall for it: distraction from what's going on until it's too late—and in the US, it probably already is.

I would be more hopeful if at least the events in the States could serve as a deterrent, but that is obviously absolutely not the case. It's the same all over the world: stupid trivialities distract from the real problems— just as the fascists want.

The internet hasn't made things better, it's only made them worse.

I think it's way past time to admit what the problem is, namely ordinary people who simply cannot fulfill their duty as responsible citizens because they act completely irresponsibly—if this weren't the case, the problem wouldn't exist at all—especially in the US: an obvious criminal with known ties to organizes crime in the office of president, a proven rapist, a highly probable pedophile? WTF!

This is only possible because people let it happen. It's simple as that.

10

I'm not convinced that all that nightmare stuff hasn't been discussed a great here on lemmy, including calls to action, and I'm even less convinced that insisting that no one has any lighthearted relief at the expense of the idiot racists is a good plan.

8

If not the citizens, then who can act as a check on the government? I admit we are in a bad situation because many people are not acting in their best interest to the point of complicity. Any other smaller group than everyone would be easier to control. I think there are multiple mechanisms enabling the current situation.

4

and they even think they're outsmarting the fascists when they point out for the millionth time that their bullshit is just that—utter bullshit.

It's just sad that nothing has changed since Goebbels

Long before that.

That there is even frippery like the Super bowl shows there's no real concern for the serious,

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bread_and_circuses

Already long ago, from when we sold our vote to no man, the People have abdicated our duties; for the People who once upon a time handed out military command, high civil office, legions — everything, now restrains itself and anxiously hopes for just two things: bread and circuses

Juvenal originally used it to decry the "selfishness" of common people and their neglect of wider concerns

I mean, I don't like the choice, simply because I don't care for his music, but I have liked maybe 1 super bowl halftime ever, so whatever. It is funny seeing all the racists get mad because he speaks Spanish tho.

Wuut, you don't like the song Mojabi Ghost?? It's lit, as the older kids say these days. His other stuff is so so.

5

I love the pattern on the right: "Despite X occurring plenty of times throughout the years on 'my side', this time I'm really riled up about something that's not even true!"

He loves his country so much he wants to defend it from ignorant outsiders, but isn't even aware of who has citizenship and won't explain why this didn't have any bearing on past musical performances.

Intellectual consistency isn't their strong point.

9

I’m fatigued by the constant racism and racist media which works both ways anything to keep the workers divided !!

8

Maybe I'm biased because I've actually sung Coldplay at karaoke, but I definitely throw on a british accent when I do them. It would sound very strange not to

4

I mean, I have a friend who’s an American citizen but grew up in England, and still has one of the strongest cockney accents you’ve ever heard.

2

"And I discovered that my castles stand..."

I would have expected "cossles." I guess Chris Martin's accent is more American-sounding.

-1

Personally, I am thankful for these racists. If it weren't for them, I would have never heard of this dope ass band. I am diggin what I've heard of Bad Bunny so far, and am excited to hear more!

If only there was a non-racist way to share dope bands...

4

I'm still waiting for Iron Maiden or Judas Priest to do the halftime show.
