My sibling in the airforce is deploying in like 7 days. I have the same feelings that this will not be great

Best of luck to your sibling and all of us, that this won't go totally sideways.

that this won’t go totally sideways

So you haven't heard about the current US government....

They might just shoot up some luckless civilians, declare victory and go home. There's precedent for that.

Yeah, even the Iran thing was a bit bungled. Gaza makes sense, a more right sized target.

1

Don't complain. There's literally people who live in America now.

15

Im sure they want you to think its to fuel up all the fighter planes shooting down russian drones, not the big stategic bombers.

Somehow the amount of terrifying options here are through the roof. Not sure why but I find Gaza or Iran the least terrifying outcomes...

I mean the guy who almost caused a recession for not understanding what tariffs are wouldn’t just cause a war, would he? …would he?

Well he might still cause a recession too, so…

I think we’re gonna get a capital “D” depression, and since orangeboi likes superlatives it’ll be “great”, and it’s gotta have a bigger number so there’s gonna be a 2 somewhere in there

14

You know what they say, a president during war time will always get reelected...

11

The guy who specifically said he'd consider starting a war to indefinitely postpone elections surely wouldn't start a war, right?

lemmy.zip

At first, I couldn't imagine that Trump cares enough to get us I into a war. But another thread got me thinking about this. If the US was embroiled in a war, the government would have context to start declaring anyone who doesn't support it to be actual traitors and execute them.

I hope that's not what this is, but that would be a typical Trump play. Jump into a whole-ass war that he gives not one fuck about, killing soldiers and foreign civilians, just because in times of conflict a President is given even greater authority and power because of the need for strong, decisive leadership.

Hopefully I'm just being cynical.

Trump was very interested in the fact that Ukraine wasn't holding elections because of the war, and because of that Zelensky was still president.

It’s not just an excuse to impose martial Law in the us, but

  • that’s what bullies do: attack the weak because you think it makes you appear strong.
  • It’s a basic part of the MAGA playlist: find a distraction, stoke outrage, appeal to nationalism
  • TACO time. If he can’t impose martial law in Portland, find somewhere else so no one notices chickening out. Maybe Portugal or something: no one will notice the difference
  • time for another distraction from releasing the Trump-Epstein files

He wants that nobel peace prize and if he has to bomb his way to it!

Maybe after this the Wikipedia page "List of Nobel Peace Prize Winners Who Killed Over 12,000 Civilians" will have a second name on it

They prepare to annihilate Gaza the very second they have the last hostage out.

14
lemmy.world

I think you're being a little optimistic about the hostages, because Trump and Netanyahu know that Hamas won't accept the "Peace deal" that they have been left out of negotiating, and thus they'll say that Hamas is responsible for the deaths of the hostages when American forces join the IDF in flattening Gaza and then turning it over to Tony Blair.

You reached the end
