But how hard is it to clean the inevitable fur and hairball puke?

Exactly this.

I had the bed in OPs meme and it was great at first! My cats loved it, they zoomed through day and night. Then one day I noticed only one of the cats would enter at a time and only while I wasn't looking. Eventually I found out one of our cats was holding politically extreme meetings under the bed which eventually resulted in an attempted coup d'etat.

Anyways, great bed. My cats run my house now and I get to sleep under the bed in a cool maze!

how did you come up with this on the spot? Psychedelics? (Serious question)

Some people just have silly minds. I tirelessly endeavor to be more like them.

After having pets for the last 30 years this was my first thought... oh great, another place for them to leave me "presents" (like poop, vomit, dead mice, etc)

Seems like you'd just lift up the mattress like they did for this picture.

Lifting out a mattress to clean is a huge pain in the ass

58

Why would I vacuum under my bed? That's where I shove items when I pretend like I'm cleaning the house.

7

I have a bed similar to this, and it just gets a little dusty. I don't think I've actually cleaned it in a decade, and at most there's just a very faint layer of dust (I just checked) in one or two spots. What are you doing that a mostly sealed area is getting dirty?

2

Some beds have storage underneath. They have a lift mechanism that lifts the whole mattress. If you used one of those as a base, then cleaning gets a lot easier.

Traditional mattresses need to be rotated/flipped anyway. Also, it's a good idea to clean under the bed occasionally.

Wait why do they need to be rotated???

1

just keep a bunch of cardboard boxes from deliveries under the bed instead, then you can just throw them away when they get dirty

2

the cats are gonna take up the whole bed and then you'll be forced to sleep in the maze

Hmm, isn't scent one of those senses tied closely to memory and is permeable to a mattress?

Also, at OP, cleaning wouldn't be too difficult. Lift mattress, apply vacuum hose.

Many double mattresses are super unwieldy and heavy. You try to lift them, they just end up bending from one side, super annoying. your waist also does not thank you after this process.

Try to give them medicine once and you'll be lifting the box spring and mattress off late at night! I guarantee it...

Before attempting such things (with or without this crazy setup), it is best to block all escapes/hiding spots, like closing a door to a room with these risks.

No absolutely not!

The little orange Zip is already dragging socks under the bed to fight. I would never be able to get them back

32

My dumbass cats would get lost down there and we'd have to let them out twice a night

Do you want a spider empire? Because this is how you get a spider empire.

28

Not if the cat overlords roam the labyrinth. If it moves its free game :)

Hairball puke pile under my bed.

I mean there's already one there, but i can at least get to it.

This is the stupidest idea I’ve ever seen - I love it!

21

Taking apart the bed at night because they brought a mouse there.

Nice.

20

I do. They don't go into the donut because it's too dark, i have to cut a hole at the back so they would go in. Bunch of pussy i say.

So I just got a cat and I have been leaving the light on by the litterbox at night. Are you telling me I can shut it off and he'll still find it ok lol I am dumb

4

Maybe my cats are weird, but I've never really had the 2 am zoomie issue. One spends most of the night by my feet. I don't know what the other two usually do, but if I get up to use the bathroom, I'll often see them lounging in the hallway, like they're holding a meeting.

4

One of my dogs would love it too. She is a dachshund and loves hiding and burrowing.
