This is almost worse for Trump. If the Supreme Court hears the case and clears her conviction, MAGA is going to raise a shitstorm. If they don't clear it, then it at least kept the story in the news cycle when Trump wants the whole thing to disappear.
The better outcome for Trump is that she takes the pardon in exchange for blaming all the Democrats. Trump gets to pretend he's not involved, and witch hunting Democrats keeps MAGA happy.

I'm pretty sure everyone in prison is not really allowed to "press ahead with an appeal" to the Supreme Court without doing a few more rounds in the lower courts first. And that's presuming there's something they want to look at.
