I have a girl cat named Preggo.

We rescued her during a tornado storm, in Arkansas, and we thought she was pregnant so I just called her Preggo.
By the time we got her to the vet we found out she's not pregnant, just fat and weird, however by that time she got used to being called Preggo so we just kept that up.

I think the twitter screenshot is fake. I tried to look up JaydenSmithish through nitter and it says user not found

14

Now think of every tweet screenshot we've seen, and how many we've actually checked to see if it's legit. Scary because nearly all of us must have fallen for lies at some point

9

Maybe we've reached the inflection point, where AI slop now outnumbers human posts everywhere.

No where is safe.

Now pick for me 4 pictures of stairs.

5

That's crazy! Although I've told this story many times before haha, I'm surprised a bot picked it up but not at the same time.

I am genuinely truthful in my story haha, she's an awesome cat!

Also, the posts were made exactly 1 month apart. This is wack

Edit, wait, I think the twitter screenshot is fake. I tried to look up JaydenSmithish through nitter and it says user not found

11

At first I was confused about why someone would copy some random twitter user's post on here, but now I'm even more confused about why someone would fake a month old twitter post

I mean I respect the art, it definitely had an effect on me

We name all the cats regardless of sex after something to do with literature. But that's their government names and I normally don't use those online to protect their tiny kitty privacy.

All their nicknames are like

Jerkcat Babycat Dingus YOU FUCKER STOP CHEWING PLASTIC creature Sweetie Grey ghost Great hunter

Look, just anything that pops into my head as I sing sweet nothings to them

Current cat is creature often. Little weird creature.

Names of my kitties over more than two decades:

Girls: Nova, Athena

Boys: Casper (black), Cocoa (white with blue eyes), Marconi

All kitties have dignified names.

Hahaha. One of the medical assistants read his name as Macaroni. The vet was like, "He's named for the discoverer of radio, right?" I affirmed and he made her apologize, which I thought was unnecessary. I guess he wanted my kitty to have the dignity of being addressed by his correct name. I told her I didn't mind.

2

I love your vet. My dog was born on 4/20, so I wanted a weed-based name that wasn't obvious. I looked through a huge list of marijuana euphemisms and as soon as I saw Macaroni, I knew it was his name.

Our usual dispensaries are all dog friendly, so we take him there to get pets. We love telling the story of his name there, Stephen always get a kink out of it.

Which is kind of funny, you'd think a white cat would better fit "light bringer"

Luna - male

Eclipse - female

Madame (formally Freya) - female

Bat - female

Ding - male

Rainbow bridge: Gaia - female, Apollo - female

Bat and Ding had those names at the shelter and we didn't see a reason to change them. Luna ... We were told he was a she as a kitten, and after a week of proper nutrition we saw the boy bits and just kept the name. Apollo was purposely named that way because we already had one swap and then we'd have the sun and moon.

10

If bat and ding are patterned/spotted. Then the dingbat joke kind of fits. (Dingbat characters are characters used in printing, that instead of being letters are ornamental pictograms, which from a far look like ink spots most of the time. i swear i remember there being long, whispy characters made as edge fillers, but i can't find them anywhere.)

1

Chalupa Batman and Osiris.

lol.

All of my cats were named after Star Wars characters. No one, regardless of assigned gender, needs to be named “ Nacho Cheese Doritos Locos Tacos.”

9

Sylvie (left, named her after having just finished Loki season one) and Molly (Cobb, For All Mankind)

sh.itjust.works

Funny, I’m close to the opposite. My boy cat is named after a god (Apollo, Greek god) and my girl cat is named after my favourite drink (Islay, scotch from Islay, Scotland).

When I was a kid our kitten was a rescue my mother brought home from the place she took horseback riding lessons - the kitten got stuck inside the chip machine's coin box, so it works more whenever you fed the machine coins.

We ended up giving her the oh-so-original name snowball. Then her colors came in and we discovered her to be a calico. Oops. Kitty it is then. RIP kitty.

7

Well I guess if we're just throwing out cat names we've used

Boy: Rocky, Guardian, Scout, Peewee, Houdini, Big Boy

Girl: Socks, Magellan, Diva, Leia, Izzie, Ozzie, Fireball, Ditto, Belle, Oreo

We currently have a female cat. We called her sky. Beforehand we had a male cat, all white with a black head. We called him yorshik. Which i'm quite sure it's a corruption of the russian for toilet brush... Poor thing.

Doing a quick search on “Yorshik” (Ёршик), of the very few sources I could find on the topic, while the word does seem to translate to “brush” there doesn’t seem to be any surface connection to toilet brush per se, though naturally it may be possible on a colloquial level.

This source that deals with meanings and etymologies of Russian words says:

Слово «ёршик» является диалектным выражением, используемым в русском языке для обозначения маленькой ёлочной игрушки в виде ёлочной ветки или шишки. Это слово имеет древнерусское происхождение и связано с древними славянскими обрядами, связанными с поклонением природе и деревьям.

Which DDG translate says means

The word "brush" is a dialectal expression used in the Russian language to refer to a small Christmas tree toy in the form of a Christmas tree branch or cone. This word is of Old Russian origin and is associated with ancient Slavic rites associated with the worship of nature and trees.

The only other resource I’ve found is this 11 year old YouTube video in Russian, that I can’t really understand. They seem to be joking about something, and “New Year” is mentioned, but I didn’t hear the word for toilet.

As far as I can understand, Yorshik seems to mean “brush” or “little brush”.

2

the name was born as a joke from my multilingual aunt and got deformed to hell by us not really knowing what it meant other than her vague explanation. It was most likely a longer word that got truncated into something more pronounceable in my native language, so it's not too out of the question that it lost a lot of meaning in the process. Though "little brush" also fit well with how bristly his fur was. So he may have gotten off better than we originally intended :-P.

I named by boy Willow, because he had very long limbs and tail, reminded me of the tree. the petsmart employee thought it was weird tho and only wrote 'Will' down on the form

It doesn't apply in my case, but I like the idea of a goddess called Bubbles and a Taco Bell item called Squanch.

Yes, he got him shortly after 300 came out, rofl.

I've had cats named Baldr, Hermóðr, Grendel, and Wotan. I've currently got a Valkyrie, Brynhildr, Freyja, and Freya (we got Freya when she was a year old because her owner couldn't keep her, and we already had Frejya, so...). But our current boy cats are Svartur ('cuz he's black), Robert, and Charlie.
