We Have Won the Lemmy.World LemmySilver Event!

Thanks to the massive participation by you all last month, we took an early lead and did not let up! We have secured a nice donation from the .World admin team, and they have sent confirmation of a donation to me for the wild animal rescue that I volunteer for, Aark Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center.

The Aark was founded in 1979, and has become one of Pennsylvania's largest wild rehabs, treating around 5000 animals each year. Spending time with you all here on Superbowl has lead me to join them to help with this wonderful (but also hectic and chaotic, usually in a fun way) experience. They also have a broad collection of unreleasable educational animals, including a beautiful Great Horned Owl and a pair of Screech Owls that I hope to someday get to work with.

This prize joins my previous contributions made in the name of the community for the 2 previous Owl of the Year competitions to help conduct this important work! Thank you all for your contributions!

Note: The coin in the post is an edit of one from the Canadian Mint.

They have a bunch of neat coins with owls, if you are into that sort of thing.

Northern Lights coin

Glow in the Dark Eyes coin

And many more!

Lots of other countries have great owl coins as well, of course. Everyone loves an owl after all!

I have no idea what the lemmy.world lemmy silver event is/was, but I love seeing all the owls in my feed... so congrats & keep it up!

That's really cool, excellent job everyone involved!

Also, lemmy owl coins for the general public when? Could be the new Silver!

It was great to see everyone's participation, from both the regulars and the lurkers. We've got a really good group of people here!

Everyone loves an owl after all!

I knew someone who hated owls. They were a terrible person and I think those two things are related.

Congrats!

I come across enough stories about people that don't, but as you said, they are not my type of people! If you can't at least respect nature, I don't know how you can respect anything.

Thanks to everyone that participated!

I think there were almost 70 listed under "owl" though not all are still available. Canada seems to be one of the biggest pro-owl countries I've come across.

Thank you for the support!

They really had a great variety. It would be neat to see some of the holographic ones in person.

I do my best to keep learning and to make it interesting for you all as well!

I'm glad you enjoy it! Do you have a favorite owl or fun fact you've learned?

The dogs that could smell owls were pretty cool. If you ever find the reverse you could have a fantastic carnival act.

I was just thinking about those dogs recently! I believe I saw a post from then saying their program is at risk of losing its funding/grants thanks to the government shenanigans, soni hope they keep getting good work with all the various jobs they do!

Getting an owl to do anything seems to be a great challenge, but I'd sure love to see it! 😁

Oh. For a glorious moment, I thought these coins were actually in rotation - Canada gained and lost a point in quick succession there, haha!

But they're still cool collectibles for owl people and coin people alike (though as a collector of nothing but dust and debt, I would personally rather put that amount of money towards actual owls).

I think Bermuda and Greece actively have owl coins in circulation, and I'm sure there's more.

I'm tempted to pick up some just for fun, but then I tell myself I already have enough stuff that just lies about. Looking at photos is almost as good and takes up no space or money. 🤪
