Musk immediately calls for judges to be impeached after DOGE rulings

Summary

Elon Musk called for the impeachment of federal judges after courts blocked his DOGE from laying off probationary (new) federal workers.

Judges ordered agencies to reinstate tens of thousands of employees, ruling the firings unlawful. Musk claimed judicial resistance undermines democracy.

Musk has attacked judges on social media, calling them “corrupt” and “evil,” raising concerns among federal judges about their safety.

How ironic that the guy who was never elected for anything is whining about democracy. And "corrupt"? Corrupt might as well be Elon's middle name.

Fortunately, there seems to be a growing resentment about that with the GOP electorate for this very issue. We’ll have to see if it’s enough to help tip the scales.

We’ll have to see if it’s enough to help tip the scales.

If Trump and Musk have their way, November 2024 was the last time they will be using scales.

It’s debatable whether scales were used even then. But I get what you’re saying.

I've no doubt, since that bloviating idiot can't keep his mouth shut to save his life, but do you have a link?

and 2 days before that, and 4 days before that, he's been steadily skwaking about that. I don't know if it's a gloat or an intended button to press. I'd like to see someone challenge him to prove it, he couldn't stop himself.

He's far more certain that another coup won't erase him than I am. (which is admittedly not 50% yet but still)

What about a big, upright scale, with a heavy blade at the top? Ask the French about it.

19
lemmy.zip

I'm down for that. Do you think the French will let us rent one from them? Or should we just build our own? I feel like we could use enough to justify the cost of building 😉

2

Yeah, but a guillotine is so much cooler. If we are revolting, do it in style 😉

My local magats are still behind him, they think it’s criminal that people are protesting at our local Tesla dealership. I think at least one of them—who’s extremely anti EV, is considering a fucking Tesla. And he’s a car guy who has had multiple luxury cars, and knows Tesla build quality is garbage.

11

Then, he's a moron and he deserves to be bilked out of his money. Fuck him.

15

Same, one of mine is claiming that "Protesting Elon Musk to fight corruption is like killing chickens to bring down egg prices!"

Ah yeah, I guess they didn’t, they deleted but an apology woulda been nice.

3

Basically “you shouldn’t support nazis and if you reply to this message I know you’re a nazi and I’ll keep calling you a nazi until you stop.” Lots of misdirected passion.

1

The irony is lost on him and anyone agreeing with him on this issue.

8

We’ve been asking him to for a while but he won’t listen and he keeps giving money to the people who should be making him leave

23

I didn't think I'd ever say this in earnest but I wish he would get deported back to where he came from.

Elon Musk is mad there's a process in place to protect workers from being fired without reason? Color me shocked.

He was already pissed when they built the Tesla plant in Germany. Strong unions and worker rights and environmental protections. All the things he so heavily dislikes, the Muppet.

Only the fall of Weimar Republic, and the 12 years or so after that. Everything else is woke nonsense to him, I am sure.

being a lesbian married to an indian immigrant in switzerland is not too woke aslong as you are the fuhrerin of afd...

Small note for the summary: "probationary" in terms of government employees does not necessarily mean new, it means new in that role.

So, someone who has been working for the government for 20 years and was just promoted to a senior position is a probationary employee.

67

Yeah this makes it just so much fucking dumber. That they would try to claim that it's due to poor performance, when they are literally firing people who just got promoted.

37

I have a bunch of coworkers who were contractors in a position for about a decade, then transitioned over to GS employees doing the same job. They were classified as probationary due to being "new" to their positions and were put on notice.

I guarantee you he has signed no papers. His name won't be in anything. In a court of law you'll have trouble proving he actually ordered anything at all. He is welding all this power completely outside of literally any accountability and Trump , Congress, and Trump's supporters are all fine with that.

So he says, "fire these people" and they just do it? If that's how it's been going that's even worse than the madness I thought it was.

14

There's a reason real cabinet members do things the way they do - those governance structures were designed to allow them to wield executive power but maintain checks and balances - secretaries have to be senate confirmed, and there are actual ways in which they issue orders. Musk is operating outside of all of that, and wielding Trump's personal power. Most Americans just don't care.

3

This, it's actually why the courts haven't come after him specifically, because on paper it's been... some dementia ridden woman who's name is being used to rubber stamp shit while she's dying in a nursing home in Mexico.

I'm barely exaggerating

5

Seems like it would be real easy if Elon tells you you're fired just to respond with, "No thanks"

2

Probably can't find anyone with the balls to enforce the judgement

However, impeachment of judges requires 2/3rd in the senate. That's the more important thing to note

House dems aren't as much. The censure vote is stupid, sure, but censure is just paper with no teeth. House spending votes do matter and all House Dems minus 1 all voted against the bill Schumer wants to get through. They are fucking pissed at Schumer right now. They're actively pressuring him (and publicly so) and starting primary efforts. State AGs are also pressuring Schumer not to go through with this

Complete meltdown. Complete and utter meltdown on all text chains," said the member, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to offer sensitive details of members' internal conversations.

A senior House Democrat said "people are furious" and that some rank-and-file members have floated the idea of angrily marching onto the Senate floor in protest.

Others are talking openly about supporting primary challenges to senators who vote for the GOP spending bill

[....]

"People are PISSED," one House Democrat told Axios in a text message.

Several members — including moderates — have begun voicing support for a primary challenge to Schumer, floating Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and Dan Goldman (D-N.Y.) as possible candidates, three House Democrats said.

One lawmaker even vowed at the House Democratic retreat to "write a check tonight" supporting Ocasio-Cortez, said the senior House Democrat

Another Democrat told Axios the ideation has gone a step further: "There is definitely a primary recruitment effort happening right now ... not just Schumer, but for everyone who votes no."

[...]

Said one member: "Folks are still working the phones tonight with their senators. We have not given up."

If they do actually try and start impeachment against a judge, do keep the pressure on the senate to vote no, but don't preemptively doom about it. It just makes people defeatest and stop fighting

4

The censure vote is stupid, sure, but censure is just paper with no teeth.

The fact that the supplication was performative just makes it all the more craven.

3

And surely the Dems will all vote against such a thing, right? RIGHT? While y'know, they still are allowed in?

1
Ledivinreply
lemmy.world

Sure it is, if they can get 2/3 of the Senate to vote to impeach. And if they manage that, I think it's time to cut off some heads

9
upandupreply
sh.itjust.works

Yeah, that’s not gonna happen. The Democrats may be weak as shit right now, but I’d be shocked if they get a 2/3 of vote at all, let alone enough times to impeach all of the judges who are at least trying to stop musk and Trump from their project 2025 ambitions.

8

Rules and laws don’t apply anymore. It’s all we got but it’s not enough. Sure all sides are playing along for now. But maga is doing what they want with minimal pushback. There is no real enforcement of these things they are told they can’t do. There are no consequences. While the takeover is slowed down by some of these losses, it sets the stage where most people are not caring or have given up. There is no real fight against this onslaught. Saying they can’t do this or do that means nothing at this point.

I see a few dozen people show up for a protest. It’s good, until they block traffic and then half the people showing support for the protest get mad and hate protesters. Lots of memes are out there. There is no organized defense. We are all going to suffer much more.

What happened to the musk hate from the right? They're suddenly taking his word as gospel and sending death threats to Judges.

27

He kissed Trump’s ring to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars. Then he came out explicitly endorsing Trump. Plus, he’s a neo-Nazi shit bag.

That’s what happened

28

Am i misunderstanding, or are you saying the right is trying to stop having death threats to them? Which if that is correct, I'm not sure I'm following what you are saying.

1

Whatever happened to that Pence gallows they set up?

14

Stop listening to an African Nazi who has no power over the country.

For the strongest country in the world, Americas fucking weak.

Send Musk back to Africa. Fuck sakes America.

20
lemmy.world

Musk has no legal right to call for such. Just blowing hot air if it were any other legislature

18
lemmy.world

I think it's about time this stuff is called out for being thinly veiled attempts at intimidation.

14

Yep. Back to the Political Spoils system. We are in for a world of hurt if this doesn't get stopped soon.

2

The power of the purse is in the hands of the democratically elected congress.

So to get on the same page as Elon, a government agency, formed through an executive order, being run by an unelected official, thinks that they have the power to to eliminate programs, jobs and funding from congressionally approved organizations. Got it.
