Working in a store and being known locally as the “tech guy”, you would be surprised how many young people (mostly girls) have handed me their phone and the lock screen and background pics are selfies.
If it’s a man with a pic of himself it’s usually with something he identifies with. A tractor, a guitar, a game collection, a truck or car, guns. Shit like that.
Donald Trump identifies with Donald Trump and MAGA hats. It has nothing to do with making America great either. Maga is just a word now, and that word means Donald Trump.
I was wondering about this phenomenon yesterday. A female coworker handed me her phone and it was a mirror selfie which I didn't think anything of at first, but it slowly dawned on me how odd I would find that had it been a man doing it. Can't really think of a good reason why that is but I guess it's just a weird cultural thing.
Yeah, culture is definitely a part of it. Women spend a lot of time on makeup, and I believe that is a part of it. All of that effort and they’re probably proud of their best work. I mean, I probably would be.
Whether we like it or not, men and women are different. The line between us is also very obviously subject to change and maybe one day the line won’t exist. It does at the moment though and that’s alright.
My kids tell me all the time that my views on gender are outdated. Their kids will probably tell them the same thing in one direction or another. There’s no telling. Culture is constantly evolving for better and worse. Some wild shit happened in the ancient world. Some wild shit will happen in the world of the future.
Being alive is interesting. I’m a moron though haha. Take care.
That we're in the situation of locking up the former President because he's so relentlessly criminal there's literally nothing even white men in power can do to stop it. How stupid are we.
I'm worse. I use the same one on my lock screen, which is this Google space wallpaper with the cut off close up Earth at the bottom and the sun at the top.
I still don't understand why they have such different times?
Edit: Oh. I'm just not dumb enough to keep assuming someone screencaps their phone screen to share images instead of actually just sharing the source image itself. Ugh...
My problem with using defunct letters is that it requires a lengthy explanation, and even then is still hard to read. It would be easier just being in a different language entirely, at least I could copy and paste into a translator.
ð and þ are lost letters of ð english alphabet which technically were used interchangeably, but in oðer languages represent two distinct sounds.
Þink vs Ðou if you want to sound it out to get what's being distinguished, it's like ð difference between B and P, or D and T, but for ð two sounds you hear whenever you read a th.
Which still doesn't really answer why use them. Why make it intentionally harder to understand your comments? What's the upside to it?
Edit: I've looked at your previous comments and saw you explain it to someone else where they've come from and your preference, but I feel like if you have to explain it to everyone it can't possibly be a useful way of communicating.
Why sully a very plausible claim with a screenshot that is clearly not of a wallpaper? Lock Screen displays the big clock, not at the little corner clock. Home Screen at minimum shows the dock at the bottom. Time at top + app switcher line at bottom = open app.
Pray tell, how is the lock screen wallpaper not a wallpaper?
When you tap the share button on a photo in the photos app, there’s an option that appears called “use as wallpaper”. Guess what it brings up when you select that option? That’s right, it’s the page to customize the Lock Screen wallpaper first and foremost.

What an amazingly fragile person.
Great, now I can't unsee it
You can't unsee their grandma?
He looks just like her
You know, if I squint a little and turn my head to the side, I can see it now. He does look very much like @PriorityMotif's grandma.
It's kind of scary
Of fucking course it is.
Donald Trump's wallpaper is a picture of
himselfa well known rapistYou sir are technically correct, the best kind of correct
But you repeat yourself.
No u
That is completely expected.
He knows that he can't pull off having the coolest fucking lockscreen of all time:
Looks more hot than cool to me.
Is there some story behind this picture or is it just some random picture?
looks like a circus or something?
Seems like an interesting circus.
It looks like an ad for a coal fired cooker.
Victorian advertising was just weird as fuck in general. Especially the stuff involving kids.
You're not wrong. Damn.
That's something an old person would do. This all checks out

Checks out. Donald Turnip uses loads of makeup
Even more simple than that its what a narcissist would do.
That's the lock screen
To represent how he's going to be locked up
I hate that you're likely correct.
... because you want to see the felony charges dismissed instead?
That we're in the situation of locking up the former President because he's so relentlessly criminal there's literally nothing even white men in power can do to stop it. How stupid are we.
Did anybody expect anything less?
I'm still surprised he didn't pick himself as his own vice president candidate.
He tried but Pres and VP candidates by law have to be from different states.
He's from New York but lives in Florida. No problem, right?
That's just so his handlers can tell him it's his reflection. "How do I look today?" "Great, sir, just look at that reflection!"
Definitely not a narcissist. Totally normal. We all do that, right? /s
Makes sense. There's nothing in this universe he loves more.
Trump, every time he looks at his phone:
I'd elect me.
I'd elect me so hard.
🎵goodbye horses🎵
This angle really accentuates his dumptruck ass.
That bulk is half diaper.
That should surprise exactly no one. Narcissistic cheetolini.
Edit: also, did he sign his own hat?? 🤣
My boss also has a picture of himself as his wallpaper. 😳
Is your boss running for president right now?
You know, I see women with themselves on the lockscreen all the time, but I've never had the nerve to ask why.
The answer is the same: pathological narcissism.
Do me next my lockscreen is a Hershey bar
Lack of exposure to quality chocolate? :P
That's a bit harsh. A lot of women do that because they take pride from and put effort into their appearance and felt good about that shot.
That's a bit too vain for me personally but it's hardly narcissistic in and of itself.
My lock screen is black and my wallpaper is black. Less clutter. Less visual noise. Easier to find items.
Also, depending on the screen, less battery drain.
Which is true for most phones nowadays, as you're basically talking about OLED.
I have a black background because why would I want anything else. My lock-screen has always been an image that I made many years ago.
Man, I must be really boring...
Lock screen:
Wallpaper:
They're nice. Maybe you're nice too. You know, nice and normal. That's something to aspire to nowadays. Anyway have a great nice day.
that lock screen is insane
Real tree here in Portland.

At least yours have aesthetic value. My lock screen is my kid and my wallpaper is one of my dogs.
i wish my dad was a lemmy user
My dad died in 2016, so I wish I had a dad. 🙁
i'm sorry to hear that :(
I'm worse. I use the same one on my lock screen, which is this Google space wallpaper with the cut off close up Earth at the bottom and the sun at the top.
Did he sign his own cap?
There are some media guest in the zoomed out picture. My guess is that he signed it for them.
And his fans call trans people narcisistic, for wanting to be respected and not wanting to hear yet another dumb "remedy" for "gender confusion".
I don’t understand how any of them can have a problem with narcissists when their god is the living embodiment of narcissism.
If only this photo was taken a minute later
I was focused on the clock from the screenshot trying to figure out what 6:56 meant, then I realized I'm dumb.
I got confused too so I'll explain for others. Trumps phone is on the table. On his phone the clock says 9:10, 9:10 + 1 minute = 9:11.
I still don't understand why they have such different times? Edit: Oh. I'm just not dumb enough to keep assuming someone screencaps their phone screen to share images instead of actually just sharing the source image itself. Ugh...
I prefer having someone far less evil on mine.
And it's one of the most unflattering pictures I've ever seen in my god damn life
Donald thinks it makes him look like a tough guy.
And he chose that picture of himself?
I mean it's not like there's a good photo of him...
That's because no one else on the planet matters more to him than... him. Donald Psycho McTrump.
Not psycho IMO, Narcissistic.
C) All of the above.
Fair enough :-D
he might forget who he is otherwise
This is how he knows it's really couldn't be anyone else's phone.
Bobble Head
Well ðis þread just made me deeply self conscious about þinking v making my home screen a picture of me wið my GF ðat I'm particularly fond of.
I'm probably going to regret asking, but why the odd letters? And why, as near as I can tell, are there two different ones for 'th'?
Fun fact, when you see "ye olde tavern", the y is used in place of þ. Which is pronounced "the".
I don't know why this guy insists on using these old letters but hey it's fun seeing colourful people on the internet. I say upvote the fella.
That is interesting!

And even after the explanation (and I already knew about the letters), it's still expends enough energy to parse for me to not bother.
Edit: I left out the word 'energy' because apparently my brain is skipping grooves this morning.
It's all a part of Life's Rich Pageant.
Why sully a very plausible claim with a screenshot that is clearly not of a wallpaper? Lock Screen displays the big clock, not at the little corner clock. Home Screen at minimum shows the dock at the bottom. Time at top + app switcher line at bottom = open app.
Look closer. Trump's phone wallpaper is visible in the photograph.
Pray tell, how is the lock screen wallpaper not a wallpaper?

Noooooooo it's very slightly difffereeeeeennnnnnnt
