The last line on the typewriter has a typo that says "X-MEN IS WORK NOW" instead of "WOKE NOW".

4

You try typing accurately while frothing at the mouth and furiously masturbating to the thought of Trump becoming president again!

The Boys is what always got me. It was "woke" from the first season, criticizing evangelicalism and corporatism, themes that were (and still are) major topics of debate today. As the show goes on, it tackles more ongoing issues like rainbow capitalism, police brutality, and now, rising fascism in America, and it's only woke now?

The morons didn't realize you're not supposed to be cheering for Homelander.

55
lemm.ee

Granted, I'm a fucking idiot, but was anyone EVER rooting for homelander? He was an obvious piece of shit from the outset, and in my opinion, people from almost any political bent would have acknowledged that.

Like, I see this sentiment that "homelander was making fun of you the whole time and you didn't know it" meme, but I feel like it attacks a strawman that completely did not/does not exist.

Watch some interviews of people at maga rallies to find them.

16

but was anyone EVER rooting for homelander?

early on in the show's life, absolutely yes, i saw plenty of people doing just that

6

I've never watched an episode but have a general idea of the premise. It seemed pretty obvious that Homelander wasn't the protagonist from the basic understanding I had of the show and the promotional material.

3

I had a friend go "yea I dont like how they just made Frenchie gay now" like dude, he is one of the fruitiest characters I've ever seen. And he has always been like that. I feel like anti LGBTQ+ people just dont have people skills and can't tell if someone is queer. That would explain why they keep insisting that back in the day noone way bi and all that.

Is the boys really woke or just anti maga? Or is woke now just anti maga?

4

They were a little less on the nose, which is why it flew over conservatives’ heads.

There are conservative Star Trek fans and it's really weird. They ignore the diversity and the socialist utopia and just focus on pew pew space battles.

45

I liked it back when it was anti imperialist, anti capitalist, anti racist, and promoted socially progressive relationships, not like now when it's anti imperialist, anti capitalist, anti racist, and promotes socially progressive relationships!

33

Which is hilarious because (and I say this as a huge Trek fan) the pew pew space battles are easily the worst part of Star Trek, production-wise.

Even a Cardassian like Damar eventually puts the logic together to realize that all the racism he and his fellow Cardassians were doing to Bajor, well, it ended up happening to them via the Dominion. You can almost watch the realization towards the end of S7 of DS9 where he realizes he will need to lead a resistance movement, which had previously contributed to the downfall of Cardassian occupation of Bajor.

To miss the message of that show, even if you watch it from a Pro-Cardassian standpoint, takes real work. The themes are served to you on a silver platter for the taking.

LMFAO. RATM lyrics were so radically leftist that I am fairly certain the entire band was on an FBI watchlist.

39

The name itself is very leftist. There could be a band named "This Band is Woke and Always Has Been" and they would say they're woke now.

8

When I was young the world was pure and innocent, but then I learned about politics and everybody started doing it.

26

If the far right possessed any humanity, creativity, talent, or imagination they could create their own woke-free entertainment but they don't so they should shut the fuck up and be grateful that everyone else can.

Politicized media discourse is so annoying. The Disney Star Wars trilogy wouldn't magically become good if conservatives were in charge of it. Crap writing is crap writing, no matter what ideology (or lack thereof).

Conservatives being in charge of writing produced such masterpieces as Mr. Birchum and Ladyballers. Both Benny Shaps and Jeremy Boering failed to make it in Hollywood as writers for a reason.

Oh no, does that mean Barbie is woke now too?

(Just kidding, Barbie has always been woke.)

Barbie always being woke? I assume you mean the movie.

2
lemmy.world

No, I meant Barbie in general.

Before Barbies, dolls for girls were always baby dolls, and Barbies were part of the change that showed women can have careers and be more than homemakers.

I thought we addressed that pretty well with during the opening "2001: A Space Odyssey" sequences.

Teen Talk Barbie got a lot of shit for "Math class is tough!"

The best part of this meme is that it takes into account the fact that they haven’t figured out how unimaginably, purposefully woke The Matrix is

In my view, Star Wars has actually been quite conservative. So I guess it IS relatively woke now?

Well Lucas saw it as an allagory for resistance against empire so there may be something in there to muddy up simple conservatism. Nothing is simple.

4

I mean, sure, they are fighting magic space Nazis, but other than that, it's a regular ol' western.
