So you’re saying you don’t want insightful, thoughtful comments from u/rimjob_steve this time around?

159

Couldn't get the username you wanted? It's probably available on another federated instance.

83

Completely understand why people would want to change their names. But why mess with perfection in my case?

81

Are we talking pre-crucifixion, zombie, or the missing lore three day period between?

2

Showerthought: This post is just an opportunity for users with inappropriate usernames to show them off.

37

But, I am looking forward to changing my political views and recontextualizing my reality from a stirring post by CumFartCocktail :(

23

Well I am too, so can you really blame me that I burned down reddit for my personal gain and an increase of magnitudes in my wealth?

2

I don't understand on why on a website where you can be anyone that you would choose to be something gross.

22

I made sure not to use my real name this time. I had too much karma when I realized how dumb a move that was.

20

Wanted PanGalacticGargleBlaster but apparently that was to long. So now I'm probably named like a gay pornstar. Well, it is what it is

17

My old Reddit username has my birth year in it. Not as cringy now that I’m older, but when I made my account I was 15 lol. Big time “Summer Reddit” energy

17

I had this one in my head for yeaaaaars and I'm so glad I can start from scratch here in the fediverse.

16

You can screw it up. My display name here, for example, isn't my login name.

15

You can set your own display name, and you can have any username you want if you run your own instance or at least join a small one. Getting that one special username is not that important which is great because it's another feature that keeps egos in check.

Same - only not 20 years, more like 15-16 years.

Reddit for 8. Steam for longer.

2

I had this as my AIM name, back before I had anything related to online gaming. Possibly used a different name in EverQuest but I can't remember lol

1

I put a typo in my username when I first signed up on Reddit. I got it right this time! I think...

13
lemmy.world

Nice! That's a good one. I also feel good, I feel like I should never have to put a /s next to my comments ever again lol

You can change it now if you want! Alice is a good name though, especially since I am a fan of Wonderland.

thank you ! oh damn right it is, i'm completely satisfied with it! Though, the origin of my name comes from something MUCH different than Alice in Wonderland...

9

My last one was "AmiawakeWasTaken"... so glad I got here first this time!

12

Too late. I told my wife I wouldn't use it again because it wasn't the greatest, but don-ju-wan-me-baby?

11

I don't even watch wrestling. Just the idea of an elbow drop is hilarious to me. Like the rocks people elbow.

I actually did watch a WWE thing on Hulu recently. I made it about 22 min. They took a commercial break during the match.

11

it's part of growing up. wear your -69adidas69- user name loud and proud.

10

I was finally able to get my gamertag as a username. All is good over here at Lemmy

10

I definitely took the time to make sure I was more incognito this time around. 🤣

9

Technically you can have any username you would ever like, just spin up your own instance!

9

Listen, RUMPLEFORESKIN is not embarrassing, OK? I just didn't want my kids asking about it. Jeeeeze.

9

Tbh, my first thought was to use my old one. Then I really went for a fresh start, and actually I like this one better.

9

A wizard does not change his username, he carries it with the same pride or shame that one does of any nickname earned in highschool-college.

8

Not embarrassing but I had a pretty unimaginative username and always felt I could have done better. Lemmy gave me a chance to have a kickass username… and I squandered it by feeling too much pressure and writing whatever came to my mind first in the prompt :(

8

Think I did ok, but does it really matter when I can just create my own instance and choose whatever username I want?

8

Yeah no way hose. Changing the name here would be admitting to myself that it was a stupid nickname back then. I mean, i know it was a stupid nickname but admitting it is a step too far.

8

Anyone comes up in here with random word + random word + random number, we're going to have a fight.

7

My reddit name was based off of a meme from 2009... Funny at the time but boy it certainly showed it's age as time went on.

I got my username back! I missed it. Got banned from reddit and used some alt for a while.

I like this username. Keeping it.

Wow, you're active! A whopping 372 comments since the exodus

Incidentally when I was an Uber driver I picked up a passenger who was a tall, super muscular black man wearing very little clothing, like a lion cloth or something.

I had been expecting someone named Jenny.

He told me he was Abbadon, Archangel of the Abyss, and that he was here because humanity was on the brink of massive death.

I wasn’t sure what to say. I pressed him for details but he said it would not be good to tell me.

He asked how I knew the city so well. I told him I was just following the blue line. He said “what blue line” and I showed him the Uber app on my phone. He asked about the capabilities of the phone. Seemed fascinated by the way the map changed in real time as I drove.

The drop off point was a diner. But given it was a few hours before dawn the diner was closed. I asked if he wanted me to take him somewhere else instead. He said no, “This is exactly where I need to be”.

I gave “Jenny” five stars.

2

I came up with the name in highschool. Me and some friends had a gaming club. We all chose usernames from demonology. Abbadon was some kind of 7th layer duke or something. It was the most appealing name since others had allready taken beelzebub and all higherups. Over the years I've found that depending on the source, Abbadon can have different roles and ranks or not even be mentioned at all.

1

I’d actually argue that it’s easier to get good names simply because each instance can have its own username pool. For instance, my username could also be used on other instances by other people. Me creating this account doesn’t stop someone from creating the same name elsewhere.

You did great. Sounds like you were the second person ever to get an account online or the second successful chat bot ever unleashed to the web.

1

see last time I thought other people were my problems ~12 years ago.

Now I just have people problems instead of like, homework problems, or computer problems, or car problems.

Wife cheats on me? People problem. My project a month an a half late because the previous project said "I dunno and gave up?" (haha you bastards could have written the exact same code im doing now three years ago) People problems.

Taxes? People problems. Family sick or injured or in surgery? People problems.

5

Look, I've had some form of this cringe-ass username for 20 years now, this is just part of who I am now.

5

It would have been excellent comedic timing of your username was something stupid like shitsmear69420 or onelongboob1978 or whatever!

(I swear to God, if I see either one of those user names lurking around here I'm going to poop a brick)

5

I wouldn't enable 2fa yet either there are some bugs, and the code it generated for me didn't work and locked me out of my account for a good bit. I'm not sure why but the 2fa link didn't work for me so I copied the secret out of the url and put it in my authenticator but it never worked. Just fyi.

5

Should've went with my old banned username..

Or maybe not, people were always saying weird things about it bc it was basically "YourMouthIsMyShithole"

1

Its the username I wanted on reddit. Blast whoever had it there, vengeance is mine!

4

Well, I'm much happier with this one than my old reddit one anyway.

4

I barely changed mine but I heard that you can't trust someone with boy in their name and also I grew older so it was time to change mine.

4

Are people this averse to making a new account?

Seems like privacy-oriented Lemmy wouldn't care that much but even Reddit with its karma system wasn't that big of a hurdle to new accounts

Edit: apparently Lemmy DOES actually have a karma system

4

My Reddit name was “ihaveredonme” which is not how British people would say it.

4

I hate coming up with a username on any platform and am lazy every time.

3

I got like 5 usernames over on Reddit and don't like any of them. I'm using this on Minds too. Anybody else playing over there now?

3

FORK. I made the same one I used with Reddit. Gol darn it.

I’ll make a new one, probably. I’m already a mod on this account so I’ll just dual wield.

Colorado Avalanche fans reading this, come on over and subscribe: ![email protected]

Edit: Thanks, @CommunityLinkFixer.

3

Can't beat first name for a main non-anonymous account

3

I’m just happy I didn’t need to add a number to mine

3

I used my real first name (15 year old account) so I'll be glad to finally use a fictional name

2

Did this, since you can't change reddit usernames. But since I'm new to the fediverse, I did take a long time dithering over which instance I should register on.

2

Yea I had an automatic username with a nazi associated number and I could not change the username.

2

I've changed mine. Not that my previous name was embarrassing in any way, but I just wanted to change my name.

2

i'm using my original reddit username on lemmy, it got shadow banned without explanation over a decade ago, so i created a different one which became my main account, now with over half a million comment karma, stopped writing stuff on that site 2 weeks ago

2

I'm using my IRL given name here. I like my Reddit username (and was kinda surprised it was not already taken), but it was kind of a mask.

2

Anyways instances have strict inspections on registrations before approving, especially the username. If the username is inappropriate, just create a different username.

2

My preferred nickname was taken on Reddit, I had to use a lame one (~5-10 years ago when I was creating the account).

My obsessive personality dictates that however awesome the platform is, if I can't use netvor (without any suffixes etc.) I just don't ever really form any attachment to the platform. Normally traits like this are problematic but it probably saved me from shittons of hours of arguing with Someone wrong on the Internet, so there's the bright side. 🔆

2

Same, I've had this handle since 1993, and after the clothing company opened I don't often get it without numbers on the end.

2

So I noticed this in the user settings (at least here in Liftoff, not sure how it looks elsewhere), but you can set a "display name". Seems like a cool feature.

1

I snagged the name I wanted this time instead of having to add a bit of punctuation since a dead account was already using it on Reddit.

I actually installed threads just to grab "my" name, but it's already gone there so fick em

1

Pretty much the same username I've had for years now. Gomiboy...yep,.it trash boy in Japanese. Kinda wish I had gone with something else now

1

i've managed to get my u/n on whatever way back to the original demonoid. it wasn't until discord that i found another one, but they capitalize the U for some dumb tasteless reason... i was operating the minecraft discord and Unerds was part of this roblox discord that had somehow managed to get the discord.gg/minecraft name, and they were brigading us. it was kinda funny... ultimately the minecraft community team came on board and they knew people at discord and the url was acquired for us.

1

I chose a username with numbers on Reddit, now a lot cleaner.

1

I had this exact thought. It was time to shorten, and make it less weird.

1

I decided to just go with a randomly generated name. Privacy and all :P Also, don't have to stress over it being bad

1

I screwed up getting my username without a number. It might still be available but I m also a little lazy and dont feel like changing now.
