Interviewing for a senior dev is just getting harder now a days in my experience

Recently we were doing interview rounds for a senior developer role.

A 4 year experienced candidate explained exactly how they would fix a data warehouse problem for recommending content.

Youd think he was an experienced dev based off his response.

Turns out due to the wild amount of resources available on leetcode, cfg etc he was already exposed to a whole plethora of questions.

Problem is when dealing with brand new problems how would they go about solving it? In my experience that's become a lot harder to deal with.

Meanwhile a candidate we interviewed with 9 yoe could hardly even begin to solve the same problem.

Consider hiring for 3 months perhaps? You'd get a better understanding based off their actual work product instead of a 20 min interview

Doubt anyone is going to stick around for 3 months without a job guaranteed at the end. Interns perhaps, but not experienced employees
