Interesting story during one of my first jobs as a receptionist

I was a receptionist and we had a code to get into the doors. An older gentleman shows up and tries to get in and I tell him I'm sorry sir I cannot just left you in. He was really nice about it and didn't argue. Another employee noticed him and said oh I'm so sorry go ahead sir.

He was the president of the company, he looked at me and said I'm glad you don't let just anybody in this place

I did maintenance for years and I would get so many calls about the dumbest stuff.

Dryer not working because they did not know you had to remove lint from the lint cage. Sink clogged because they did not use the garbage disposal. They think there's something wrong with your electricity because they're lightbulb is not working. They did not know they need to change it. Tripped breaker's. Dead battery on the thermostat. Just simple stuff like that. It's really sad.

I started my first real job at 17 right out of high school.

While working my clerical job for $1.50/hr. I lived at home with my folks for a couple years then moved out on my own. That was in 1974.

I got a job making stock trailers for $3/hr. My car payment was $100/mo. and my all inclusive rent for a decent 1 br apt was $60/mo. I had more money than I knew what to do with so l started saving a down-payment for a house (you could buy a decent 2/3 br house for $5,000 back then.)

Young people (all people) should be able to support themselves and its a crime what things have come to in America.
