I wonder what’s going on over at Reddit…

I wonder how the employees feel about what’s going on? How’s the protest going? What’s it looking like?

I had to fight myself so hard yesterday to not log in and see how it's going. So far today isn't that bad though. Maybe I'm already over Reddit

I am balling hard on this app. Never loggin into reddit again lol

I keep checking Twitter or the news to see what happening, but other than the site going down this morning, there seems to be nothing to report.

Except that I have a Reddit addiction, apparently.

Imho Twitter is way more addictive than reddit. The personalised algorithm is probably to blame.

Twitter has a lot of surprise porn. Like, I’m looking for something completely innocent and… there it is. I’m not shaming porn, I don’t watch it so it’s a “fine for you, but not for me” thing. This is what keeps me from being addicted to Twitter. Lolol. If it wasn’t that, I’d be on it all day.

Likely absolutely nothing is happening. Just like Reddit is a microcosm of what people in the real world actually believe, same with those who are outraged by what spez has done.

Doubt these protest will lead to any real change. Finally Reddit admins might just resort to forcefully demoting moderators and commission those who are willing to a full time job in exchange for a power trip.

3

I agree... but why not take a chance... im glad we did it

I'm imagining Spez is panicking. Like, if I was the board I'd be looking for a CEO replacement about now.

I've actually been shocked by how many people don't care. Or worse were upset that their sub was participating. I just thought everyone would see the logic here. Especially the treatment of the Apollo guy.

I’m not From a U.S. perspective most people use the official app, are used to seeing ads and consider them the price you pay for “free” use, and are just plain selfish/lazy. From their perspective, this doesn’t affect them, so why should they care? Alternatively, they don’t really understand what the big deal is, and don’t want to put any effort towards understanding it.

Just goes to show there is a percentage of humanity that is oblivious to what's going on around them and don't really care as long as it's not inconvenient.

Guarantee a good number of these people are using 3rd party apps and don't even realize this will affect them at the end of the month.

7

Highly doubting most users really care. It’s mainly the power users. Wonder what percentage of the userbase is actually affected and what percent are in it cause of the mob mentality.

2

Not a power user. I care because it's a corporate abuse of power that violates business law for no discernible reason but to profit off of the IPO. Maybe even violate the Beverly Song Act. They're subject to an action because they're registered as a foreign corporation in CA.

They were incorporated in DE and registered in CA. While they're probably just thinking that it'll resume on/after the 14th, they never cared about the users and founders like Aaron Schwartz and the former female interim CEO Ellen Pao. A bad IPO may cause them to restructure or have another investment company take it over.

Let's just hope that IPO never goes through. And even if it does, the price crashes into oblivion.

It's highly probable that subreddits will continue to remain private. What's there to lose for them, users can continue doing other stuff. Reddit on the other hand is probably losing millions every day.

2

I would much rather have the current overlords handle shit than elon fucking musk. Also a almost 20 year old company with a valuation of only 10B is a far cry from the 3 figure valuations of the competition lmao

Really hoping most people and subreddits extend it indefinitely. 2 days, realistically, isn't gonna do much. Yes 2 days is money loss, but Spez needs a wildfire under his ass for this to really matter.

19

Yeah. See how long things can go. What happens if people just don't come back? Two days probably won't do too much.

3

Right? Make it last until July when the changes are meant to be implemented, see where they are without the clicks.

7

I was wondering the same. Likely that they’re probably just thinking they’ll wait it out and people will be back like normal on the 14th.
