First of all they aren't charging for verification they are giving no verification and simply charging for a blue check.

If you don't know if the account is a celebrity or an impostor why would follow Virat Kholi or Justin bieber? Why would celebs even want a platform full of fake accounts with blue ticks of them without a way to distinguish?

And it gets even more chutiya. Many small advertisers like me run only small budget campaigns of $20. Now elon is forcing all of us to have a $100 blue tick as well just to advertise. Also twitter has always had very bad conversion rates as is. Imaging paying someone just to pay them more 😂😂😂

Celebrities and athletes complaining about paying $8 a month. The saddest part is I’ve seen no one in the media call them out for it. Imagine someone making millions of dollars a year plus endorsements complaining about paying $8 just. If Donald Trump or Elon Musk for that matter complained about an $8 charge, the internet would go mad.

Classic example of friction for the customer. Elon would rather have all advertiser's pay $1000 minimum or not advertise at all. This will not backfire for sure.

I've managed paid campaigns for a digital marketing agency.

Our local clients are extremely sensitive to the budget before the ads show first results. We've had clients fire us because the charge came 5k more than expected.

Clients negotiate even a 1000rs charge down to 500 to cut costs. So expecting them to pay 7500 just to start posting ads for a useless blue tick is extremely unacceptable. In fact we have completely stopped doing twitter ads for our smaller clients.

Twitter also has a very low conversion rate as is. I can get 10'000 impressions on Instagram or 5-10 conversions on Google ads instead of that useless blue tick. Well played elon. What a genius.

Exactly!!! I have faced the same problem. In India no one wants to pay $100 just to show ads. Fuck twitter
