At what point do I have be concerned that a cart or disk I buy won’t work on my system without a mandatory download?

The ps3 seem pretty clear but I seem to recall a game or two that did require a download, or system update, to play.

How many ps4/ps5 games would I be able to play without a server connection?

What about switch 1 /2 games?

Is there a website that tracks this or a way to tell?

I’m not looking to homeschool my kids, but I do I want to create some effective age (8 -11 year olds) appropriate lessons and teaching materials for some summer learning.

Is there a community that sort of does that?

I picked up a set of winsor newton acrylic paint and a paint pen. That was definitely the right advice.

The red could go straight onto the board, but all the other colors needed to be backed by white.

I’m an absolute beginner that decided to make a comic character poster for my kids. I found a nice tutorial and was able to sketch a nice 24,36” picture of the character Luffy from the cartoon they watch called one piece.

It’s all pencil outlines and it cleaned up pretty nicely. I unfortunately only had fluorescent pink poster board.

I’d like to paint the character in, but I’m afraid the paint won’t cover the pink and it would look pretty bad.

There are only a few colors in the character and it’s line art.

At any rate I would want a paint marker for the black lines. Would the oil based sharpie paint market be a good choice? Does anyone have an overall recommendation?

I’ve recapped an Apple 2e and started playing what was one of my first games, the bards tale.

I distinctly recall I beat the game, but I can hardly get 1/2 through the first floor of the first dungeon.

I started grinding near a temple where I can heal my party but the rng encounters make a very hard battle every 4-5 battles that wipe party members.

Reviving a party member cost 900 gold a level so if I do get them leveled up to 2 or 3 it’s too expensive to get a raise.

Anyone else remember this game?

I haven’t thought about it in a while but the premise of the article rings true. Desktops are overall disposable. Gpu generations are only really significant with new cpu generations. CPUs are the same with real performance needed a new chipset and motherboard. At that point you are replacing the whole system.

Is there a platform that challenges that trend?

Storage For the love of your data : storage is a WEAR component. Especially with HDD. Up until recently storage was so cheap it was crazy not to get new drives every few years.

Power Supplies Just because the computer still boots doesn't mean the power supply is still good. A PSU will continue to shove power into your system long past the ability to provide clean power. Scope and test an older PSU before you put it on a new build.

I picked up some old CRTs from an ewaste find and had real trouble getting them to work around 2022.

I found a guy in southern California that can fix them but he was 2+ hours away and the monitors weighted around 100 pounds.

Just a few weeks ago I finally made the drive and got the first one repaired. It needed a few small parts and a service, but had a new picture tube installed.

It was a Sony BVM-D24E1WU.

The other monitor takes about 10 minutes to warm up. Pat the repair guy told me it would only support sd resolutions (480i) I didn't take it for repair since I didn't know what I would hook up to a SD only monitor. That one was a Sony BVM-20F1U.

Doing some quick searches it seems I got super lucky in the model both displays they were, as well as finding someone who knows how to fix them.

It seems that I should do some retro gaming. My retro system is a PS3 . Is there anything that just wows on these displays?

Does anyone have an HDMI to sdi recommendation? How do I de-embed the audio?

Update:

I realized that my Taiko Drum Master machine is a PS2. I tried hooking it up the the 20" monitor and discovered the BVM does not have a composite input, component only. I'll get a component cable since I can't imagine I'd get an input card for less.

Is there anything to look out for in PS2/PS3 component cables? I had a Sony set I got by mistake and can't seem to find them now that I need them.

Edit I should add that dinner was teriyaki salmon with crispy roasted potato wedges,rice, and a spinach salad.

I wasn't sure if this was the best place to post this. A series of events happened and I recently changed up my home network.

One of the larger changes I made was to add a Unifi Cloud gateway gateway ultra.

Right away my biggest challenge is that it does not accurately list all of the client devices that it has given a DHCP lease to.

Has anyone else run into this issue?

I have some IP based security cameras that I have only been able to locate before by looking at my ISP's dhcp lease list and find the IP.

So right now I have cameras on my network and I have to brute force lookup the IP of them to figure out where they are.

A more minor annoyance is that the network topology map is wrong and that ubiquity switches are not being mapped.
