Starfield's already the top seller

If releasing broken games wasn't profitable, then it wouldn't happen. The vast majority of people don't read reviews or keep up with scummy industry practices etc.

A cousin of mine bought sonic boom on release and was super happy with it. They never finished it or were aware of the controversy whatsoever.

Comfort games?

Reply in thread

I have the base game. I played for a couple hours but haven't got the "hook". It feels very... unfulfilling... "objective marker on map, done, next". Maybe not for me or I'm playing it wrong?

Honestly I still come back to old school RuneScape every now and then for that comfy nostalgia. Even as I type I get that pang to go questing.

Megathread for Reddit Blackouts and News - Day 2

Reply in thread

As others mentioned, if any worthwhile subreddit goes dark, then the mods will be replaced and it'll be brought back.

Creating some noise works only if anyone is listening and willing to respond and enact change. Absolutely not in this scenario. The sad reality is the vocal ones are in the minority in the grand scheme of things. The 50k people leaving is, probably, pocket change and aren't the ones that the platform is geared towards nowadays.

Amnesia: The Bunker is now available

Reply in thread

I get waiting. Gives the reviews time to mellow out and the devs to patch issues.

You're not missing out on Rebirth (unfortunately). I, like everyone else, was expecting an "Amnesia" game (like Soma or the original title). I have no idea what happened during development. Maybe they wanted to try something different, but it just didn't work. You were CONSTANTLY interrupted with flashbacks. Like every 30 seconds or everytime you picked up some note. I hear it gets much better the second half of the game, but I just couldn't sit through it. I love the opening sequence a lot though (watching the city "flash" while in the plane). I thought I was in for a great time.

Tell us about unpopular games you love, or even just appreciate some aspects of, contrary to the inteenet hivemind?

Salt and Sanctuary (more for it being unpopular vs bad hivemind).

I love Metroidvanias, but combined with Souls-like elements makes for a very fun concoction. This one in particular I have so much fun exploring. The story telling and world building adds to the mystery and the fun of unraveling the story. It has a very good variety of enemies/bosses/items. It also oozes so much atmosphere. One of the better Metroidvanias (I played a fair number of them).

Another one is Dark Souls 2. I get it being disliked; can't be helped as it had a lot of departures from the first. But out of all 3, this one I played x3 as much. I absolutely love the sheer variety of locations (it's ridiculous); exploration is super fun and rewarding.

I also keep wanting to come back to DS2 for the long journey with so many cool locations.

Salt and Sanctuary really holds a special place for me. The atmosphere is absolutely top notch; we're talking Hollow Knight levels in my opinion. The map design is also phenomenal along with tons of secrets and shortcuts. Not sure if the recent patch fixed it, but the combat is kinda unbalanced from what I recall. Heavy armor is more or less useless so you might as well go fashion-souls. And 2-handed strength weapons are king.

Just finished Amnesia: Rebirth

Reply in thread

The atmosphere in Rebirth is much weaker compared to Amnesia. But it has rare moments of "lucidity" when you catch a scent of atmosphere. There is certain thing Rebirth has which Amnesia was missing, as weird as that might sound, but I think you'll get it once you reach a certain point.

There are some puzzles here and there, but they didn't stand out at all because they're so straightforward.
