Are we committed to Lemmy? or would we move if something better comes along?

No apollo app no reddit. I agree the UI/UX is problematic but the native reddit ad filled app is way worse. Lemmy both has lots of room to still improve the experience but its build well enough already to actually function and people to be here.

Its also open source, decentralized, possible to self host. Aka owned by the people rather then corpos. All those things for the new homepage of the internet? I can only get so errect.

"So the billionaires’ families are gonna get billed for all of this like the time my family got billed for my ambulance ride, right? Right?"

Tbf if its proven the titan wasn't up to regulation it should 100% be the company that build the sub that needs to be held accountable. If not the bill should go to whatever got the rescue people involved. Then the insurance that covered such exotic and dangerous ride. (Just like i had insurance when i went to see the pyramids). If its not any above the above than it means the passengers took 100% responsibility and the families should pay up.

Hundereds of immigrants died this week on a ship, no one gave a fuck. Not a penny spend.

I am hoping someone more informed then me can do a comparison how long we could provide shelter and food to those immigrants with that amount of spend money. The internet cant enforce fair economic treatment between the classes but we can call out the hypocrisy.

Replace it with what? Nothing has that recognizability. Though professional software like photoshop and vscode kinda solve it by just placing it under file > save as with no icon. Ppl who use that generally know how to ctrl-s

Pros and cons of federating with threads?

Pros: millions of users can interact with your instance

Cons: This is a super blatant attempt to consume all data. They have been doing this for years. “Log in with facebook” They see the value of the fediverse and aim to become the mainstream place for new accounts. Those users can then interact with any kind off community they want. Meta is not responsible for content on other instances. But they are harvesting all of it trough millions of clueless spies.

Star Wars rule

Lets see.. do i want to look normal but talk like i have an iq of 4.

Or do i want a super athletic cool alien body that we only associate with negativity because of the personality linked to it?

Just talk and dress better then his usual look and this is an absolute win.

Do you use adblock? Why? Why not?

As an autist, I have many challenges involving the mental filtration of information. Too much clutter or non-relevant items and I become practically blind. The internet has largely become unusable to me. AdBlock means I can still use it all.

TV-style sudden/obnoxious ads are a sensory hell that feels like someone put my brain on fire. In effect, I am too disabled to be able to watch normal TV.

Because of this societal imposed disability, excluding me from using common services without experiencing real suffering for the sheer benefit of making more money, I have taken the following extreme stance:

“Viewing of any and all ads should require consent!” My mind is mine and companies trying to hold my limited focus/concentration by using psychologically manipulative tricks is simply invasive and violates my chance to remain cognitively functional.

There are some that do ads right. For example, LTT always notifies about “segues to their sponsor [SPONSORNAME]” allowing me a brief chance to pause the vid and choose for myself if I want to watch, skip, or leave.

While I usually do skip, there have been times I consented and watched an advertisement because of genuine interest or even for my own entertainment. (Hermitcraft Grian and Mumbo produced a great ad for Mumble. I still wish I could buy those Scar audiobooks)

So yes, I feel 100% justified to AdBlock everything and saying I don't care about the creators is flat out wrong.

Direct copypasta from the wiki posted below:

In April 2019, a Twitter post by Pyle from 2017 resurfaced regarding the pro-life rally March For Life. According to some reporters, Pyle's tweet expressed support for, or defended, March For Life. The tweet caused many fans to turn against Strange Planet and its creator, in a controversy described by at least one outlet as an example of the Milkshake Duck phenomenon.[23][24][25]

Pyle released a statement shortly afterwards which did not mention abortion, but said that he and his wife "have private beliefs as they pertain to our Christian faith. We believe separation of church and state is crucial to our nation flourishing." He also stated they voted for the Democratic Party, and were "troubled by what the Republican Party has become and [did] not want to be associated with it."[25][26][27]

In 2022, he posted to social media in support of Bernie Sanders' tweet in response to the overturning of Roe v. Wade, which called the decision "an outrage" and supported codifying Roe into law.[28]

I am very pro abortion btw, my non relgious my best friend once described it as “a delicate matter balancing the autonomy of people over their own bodies versus the potential intentional death of a developing life forms. “

Guide: Self-hosting open source GPT chat with no GPU using GPT4All

Ever time i see a post like this i ask the same thing and i have yet to receive answer.

Why should i care?

There are so many open source language models, all with different strengths and weaknesses. There are tools to run them on any OS with all kinds of different hardware requirements.

This has been the case since before chatgpt came out and has exponentially blown up since.

Gpt4all is just a single recent model. But in recent weeks it always gets the headlight under “run chatgpt at home”

What does it do to stand out? Why would i use this and not one of the vicuna or llama models?

Hugging face has a leaderboard for open source large language models.

https://huggingface.co/spaces/HuggingFaceH4/open_llm_leaderboard

If you are interested in running this tech at home, familiarize yourself with multiple models because they all will behave differently depending on your hardware and your needs.
