I wanted to get some early feedback on the new Explore (previously called communities) page.

Note: This comparison only really works if you're viewing on web.

Saw that this had a number of upvotes in the issue tracker. Wanted to see here how much interest there might be in Alexandrite supporting Piefed? Doesn't seem like there is any activity in the last 7 months in the repo but maybe folks are just off to other things for a while. I was just sorta looking into the state of threadiverse client apps and seeing what trends are going on. It seems the biggest lately is having apps support more then one backend.

The list of Lemmy apps that now support Piefed has been growing quite quickly lately, now at 8! I personally would love to see this continue and I am curious if you have any interest in Raccoon supporting other backends for the threadiverse side of the Raccoon project. I remember seeing talk about if it would make sense to merge Raccoon for Lemmy and Raccoon for Friendica into one app, I guess a longer term goal is what exactly would you imagine Raccoon becoming in the long run.

Lemmy didn't load the user avatar for some reason, though thats probably a Lemmy federation issue if anything not Photons issue. But the display of the OG preview is vary different, and I would think that should be the same regardless of underlying server support.

This past June, I put together a write-up about two major approaches to backfilling conversations. The ability to properly backfill conversations means we will be able to make major inroads toward solving the feeling that the fediverse is quiet.

I, alongside several other members of the SWICG Forums and Threaded Discussions Task Force (ForumWG) have been working toward building implementor support for Conversational Contexts — the ability to explicitly classify a set of objects as belonging to a conversation, whether that be a topic, reply tree, or similar.

I am happy to report that we have made some wonderful inroads this past few months!

• [email protected] has been working closely with the Mastodon team to allow software to backfill from Mastodon — this pull request has now been approved!
• I have been working with both [email protected] and [email protected] to allow software to backfill from Lemmy and Piefed, respectively. (Lemmy PR, Piefed issue)

This marks a major milestone in the adoption of conversational contexts. With Mastodon on board backfill will be possible with the majority of the microblogiverse. With Lemmy and Piefed on board, backfill will be possible with the majority of the threadiverse.

Remember that [email protected] was an early adopter of conversational contexts, and we have been able to backfill from WordPress blogs for quite awhile now (so that's the blogiverse too)

I for one, am eagerly awaiting the next version of all of these softwares!!

I click it, and nothing happens...

There really needs to be a way to copy a link to any post or comment (as the origin url) so as to respond with another fediverse app by pasting that link in the search on Mastodon etc

I assume this is a bug but its quite weird. There are only two options when I click the user icon in the top right hand corner, Login, or Add account and they both load the login sheet for Lemmy.zip and don't allow you to change the instance

(I installed through Obtanium though I have never seen that result in missing features)

Installed on a Pixel 6a on the latest GrapheneOS

This is really just an example post that we can play with and interact with from different sides of the fediverse...
