'I thought climate change was a hoax. Now I've changed my mind'

I agree with you. In fact we had important data about this going back to the early 1900s.

But convincing people of it back then was tough going. Even scientists. It only really started being obviously undeniable (which is a higher bar than merely very likely) in the early 1990s. And we didn’t always do a very good job selling it to be honest.

Dealing with new users’ expectations

When my home instance was defederated from hexbear (you can’t fire us, we quit!), it was like someone turned off a noisy fan that had been bothering you for days. It’s the best thing that ever happened to us.

That said, I come to Lemmy.ee once in a while to see what’s going on in the wider fediverse, so I’m ok with you guys starting federated with everyone as long you can stand it. As long as I do 99% of my browsing somewhere else.

New gender gap

No, I honestly do not. I do my level best to treat everyone as a person and when I mess up I apologize and try and do better. That works pretty well.

If you are treated like you are inherently bad, you may be not as good as you think you are.

Edit: nice edit man. Totally not what an angry toddler would do.

I feel you man, I know people that grew up in environments like that, and if you are not temperamentally suited for them they will chew you up.

I found it got a lot better when I moved out on my own and could choose who I spent time and who I did not. But not everyone can do that when they need the most.
