FIFA no longer letting fans bring refillable water bottles into World Cup stadiums

cross-posted from: https://lemmy.ca/post/65954588

Organisation says last-minute ban intended to protect safety of players, fans.

Water will be sold at prices "consistent with other events held at each stadium"

“These are regular people who are saving to finally see something that's important to them, to have that once-in-a-lifetime experience in their own city, and now they're going to be told to spend more money on a Coca-Cola product,” he said. “That’s just wrong.”

Parents call for action on high levels of lead in water in Ottawa schools

cross-posted from: https://sh.itjust.works/post/59227768

Some Ottawa parents are calling for the province to address lead levels in school drinking water after a report found that three schools in the city had some of the highest levels in Ontario.

Garrett Hansen and Barbara Daniela Gandolfo both have kids at Fallingbrook Community Elementary School, which was reported to have lead levels above accepted provincial standards by the Canadian Environmental Law Association (CELA), an environmental advocacy group.

In March, the association published a report that found the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board (OCDSB), the city's biggest school board, had more test results above those standards than any other school board in Ontario.

List of suspected Nazi war criminals welcomed in Canada should stay secret, information watchdog rules

A secret list of hundreds of alleged Nazi war criminals welcomed by Canada after the Second World War, drawn up 40 years ago, should remain secret, the information watchdog ruled Friday.

The list of more than 700 suspected Nazi war criminals who settled in Canada has remained unpublished since it was drawn up as part of an official inquiry in 1986.

Which to choose: GNU IceCat or LibreWolf?

Trying to move away from FireFox.

I know that there is LibreWolf and GNU IceCat.

What are the pros and cons for each?

I tried GNU IceCat and I don't know how to install extensions. How to get extensions for GNU IceCat? Is it easier on LibreWolf?

I need the following extensions:

  • ublock origin
  • send to MPV player
  • privacy badger
  • Distraction free youtube
  • Unhook
  • LeechBlock NG
  • Privacy Badger
  • Tab Session Manager
  • KeePassXC-Browser

Looking for New Moderators

Hello All!

Thank you for using the Ottawa sublemmy. There has been a significant growth in users recently and I would like to recruit some new moderators for the community.

I would also like to have a francophone be a member of the mod team.

Please reply if you're interested, will then reach out over DMs.

Edit:

What the role will be:

  • Minimal commitment
  • Be present on the forum
  • Remove content that doesn't abide be rules set for the sublemmy

So far, the community is running well without much intervention, I suspect more eyes will be needed as new people come in.

Also, having a francophone would allow the same policy be upheld for both official languages.

Looking for Stainless Steel Insulated Bottle (recommendations please)

I am looking for a stainless steel insulated bottle. Preferred size is 500 mL.

The nearest store to me sells Hydro Flask.

I would like some other recommendations.

Some of my own research so far: Hydro Flask is owned by Helen of Troy (Nasdaq: HELE). I have come across Klean Kanteen, they seem like a good company but I'd have to ship in because it is not in store.

Ideally I'd like to support a company that is a co-operative or B-corp and not owned by a conglomerate traded on the Nasdaq/NYSE.

Obviously Canadian is preferred if possible.

Where is `lemmy.ca` hosted?

Just as the title asks, where is lemmy.ca hosted?

I have flagfox installed on my firefox.

It tells me that lemmy.ca is hosted in Washington state. Link: https://iplookup.flagfox.net/?ip=208.87.97.51&host=lemmy.ca. I'd like to know if this is accurate.

Ideally I'd like to have the data be hosted in Canada and hence under Canadian law as opposed to US law.

I'd also be interested in hearing other opinions on this.
