Do you think that Edward Snowden is a hero?

Reply in thread

Thanks, man. Been having a shit week. Literally just noticed this standalone app today. Have actually had problems with paranoia before. Though it should go without saying to anyone that my second paragraph has an obvious /s attached it.

But again, thanks so much for telling me I'm embarrassing and I don't want to learn anything, even if I posted this on a literal no stupid questions page, with an open ended question, akin to "does anybody else...?"

Yeah, okay. I do want to learn.

I especially want to learn to make sure I never explain anything to anyone like you just did to me.

Thank you for giving me more background here! I was vaguely aware of this feature but believe I disabled it earlier on (along with other unused features and app permissions en masse) so the surprise app was a shock. I'm tech-aware but not savvy at this point so I just risk mitigate where I can.

I don't have experience with Shazam or similar for context, so do most apps like this utilize snippet hashes on device? (headed to wiki but thought I'd ask)

Trump's video on Kirk appears to be AI(contested in comments)

There's definitely a weird sped-up "twitch" moment that occurs around 20 seconds in. I didn't detect it elsewhere after watching most of it (without sound) but at the very least there seems to be some smoothing-type postprocessing going on.

But does he really keep his hands that still for such long periods? Haven't paid much attention to that aspect of "serious" press releases but that stands out to me, even if it's a teleprompter job and he's trying to keep from accordiflailing.

TikTok users freak out over app's 'immigration status' collection

I called this shit 7 months ago. (Check my very first post.)

Now, at that time, there was discussion of "public-private" cooperation concerning the cybersecurity of that data so it could (paraphrasing) "stay in the hands of American people." Lolol.

No doubt a similar agreement is in place and this shit is vectored directly to the US gov.

(Sorry, I start getting long-winded here.)

Fuck the technocracy. Bunch of cowardly assholes using and clearly planning to use Americans' personal info against them en masse. The algorithms have manipulated us, pitting wage slave against wage slave. And all that extracted data will continue being utilized in siccing the brownshirts they rabbit-holed and radicalized onto conveniently corralled targets. Us.

We have to fight their algorithm manipulation with not only data poisoning and/or removing ourselves from the tech altogether, but good ol' fashioned interpersonal psychological manipulation. And what I mean by that is physically talking to humans outside our bubble. Find some common ground. Believe it or not, it still exists. Use seemingly innocuous quips to plant seeds of doubt. Try to reach the human that may or may not still exist in that withered husk you work with, that maga uncle with a maga son so in the closet it hurts, the ones just acting like it's all okay. Help them see the writing on the wall that they, too, will lose.

By completely disengaging with people we think are beyond redemption, we are possibly allowing so many with a shred of heart left to continue down the rabbit hole in private. People are stupid. And we know this division is by design. Fight it with well-placed words before they do something irredeemable and we have nothing left to fight with but arms.

A vast number of maga figureheads and followers sure seem to be living in a world of shared psychosis. And when you're in a psychosis, it genuinely feels like everyone's out to get you for reasons you can only justify with increasingly difficult mental gymnastics. But it's all manufactured by the very real psychopaths in power, the ones ensuring the cult psychosis keeps perpetuating.

I guess what I'm saying is there's still time to pull some of these followers or in-betweeners out of it by shifting the focus of what they think they have to fear by showing them what they really need to fear. A spin on killing them with kindness.

Idk tho. I'm just mad all of this dystopian hatred shit didn't just stay inside all the books I read growing up.

Does anyone else notice an up tick in hostility on Lemmy lately?

Reply in thread

Everyone should keep in mind: Besides the darkened tone of the world seeping into nearly everything, this place is probably crawling with shit-stirrers of a slightly subtler flavor than your typical obnoxious troll.

This effect might be from lemmy users in general hating everything about the world right now, or it might be the work of bots and/or illicitly paid humans fronting as the "general left." The type that reflects your viewpoints pretty well but injects their comments with a little something extra, inflaming you or depressing more than what seems reasonable, maybe pushing you a little closer to the edge, whatever that edge may be.

We (or at least I) have no idea how much astroturfing is happening in the comments. It's probably best to take anything that seems peculiarly provocative with a grain of salad.

I have this sinking feeling November 17 is significant.

I don't know if it's because an update to the insanely invasive PeePal account privacy policy that I actually read goes into effect that day, or because it's just shy of two weeks after election day, a day by which most states have (or should have) certified their results, or what.

Maybe it's because it'll have been just enough time since things "snapped" for those who can't take the exhaustion and emptiness another week, the ones who know they can no longer absorb their child's hunger, to realize they are being forced to make heretofore unfathomable decisions to function, let alone remain alive, mere days before they see and hear and maybe even smell their feckless neighbors gorging themselves in malicious ignorance, and jesus christ my-god-where-are-you they want us to be thankful for this shit????

But there they'd have em, their scapegoats for yet another heavily manufactured Penultimate Crisis.

I'm high and I hate everything.

Okay I love some things but I hate everything about this.

Trump Taps Hooters-Obsessed MAGA Diehard to Be an Ambassador

Y'all. Never heard of this guy before now. Read through all those screenshots from merc and the quotes from the article, and... this guy is most definitely performing for us. And I mean all of us, captivating the callously cultish right and aggravating reasonable lefties alike. Impressive!

There really is a nuance to his apparent lack of any self-awareness that simply cannot be dismissed. To ride such a fine line, to rustle the jimmies of so many, and then manage to be tapped for such a position, one with such exquisitely mediocre amounts of power...

It's not the onion. Dude is the onion.

Hopefully the onion to my guacamole.

I, for one, would love to see a taco replaced with a tomahawk any Tuesday. Any Tuesday now...

Pretty convinced at this point that all these dickweeds are in some kinda shared psychosis, where in their world of entitlement they get to have it all and being all righteous about it because it's their God-given right goddamn it. Money, power, control over other humans because they never learned how to control themselves.

Buncha king wannabes.

Fuckers be living in fantasy land.

Within a year, RFK wants to help you treat depression with psychedelics, LSD and ecstasy

Do not fucking trust the ends of these seemingly reasonable means.

Should we really count on this department and its affiliates to quality control and dole out these substances in a scientifically accurate and medically approved manner during treatment?

What's stopping these purveyors from issuing you an altered or "experimental" version of these drugs, with or without your knowledge?

What happens if you "unexpectedly" experience a psychotic break or some other severe mental crisis as a result of these drugs and, buried somewhere in the fine print you signed, your rights to discontinue the regimen and seek further treatment independently are suddenly, simply, out of your hands?

Because this man and those around him will gleefully schlep you to a "wellness farm" instead.

You follow?

Just... Jesus Christ just please read the fine fuckin print of any drug "trial" you sign yourself up for.

Trump Says He’ll ‘Probably’ Extend TikTok Sale Deadline This Week

Someone smarter than me needs to look at S*uth D@kota and help put the pieces of this odd puzzle together. (Made a new acct just in case I'm on to something here.)

This university is well known for its cyber-security work with the feds and happens to be working mighty closely with the current SD governor (probably with the help of crusty gnome herself) and some big-talking billionaire to try to buy Tiktk.

If you thought Amazon was bad... A "public-private partnership?" God knows what that would mean for controlling the algorithm and extracting data from unwitting users, i.e. a shitton of Americans.

Fun fact: Just up the road, a massive multi-billion-dollar data center is planned and the company, Applied Tech (which looks like a front tbh), is currently trying to get zoning laws passed in a county of a few thousand people, a county whose board of potential rubes doesn't understand tech to the point their commission meeting minutes were auto-recovered according to the downloaded file name.

Wanna bet the new power plant planned to go up nearby exists almost exclusively to power this data center's virtually unlimited crypto mining operation primarily publicized as "just doing AI stuff"?

A final fun fact for good measure: S.D. is a tax safe haven for corporations and is also one of only a few places where "dynasty trusts" can exist in perpetuity.

Maybe it's all a coincidence, but it sure seems like all of this put together spells disaster. How much dark money stands to hide in SD and places like it? Exactly how would the state's regulations (i.e. the lack thereof) facilitate this Tktk "rehoming" scheme seemingly filled with ill intent?

The TACO might just be pushing the deadline off so that the feds can get their ducks in a row in how they, too, can capitalize on this venture.

The crusty gnome clearly sold out the state for something. Technocracy perhaps?

If your federal government cut internet access to your whole town then where in your town would you think that "the people" would get together to protest ?

Reply in thread

Would not be surprised in the least.

Now folks, let's remember...

We DO get to know new friends and neighbors with relatively open discussion on lemmy.

We DON'T share intimate details of planned resistance, identifying yourself and/or outing your town. That's just... Just don't do that.

This is where I chime in with a haven't you people ever heard of closing the goddamn door, nooo

It's much better to ^shutyertraps^
