Morning kids going through toilet training gang

Went to a business awards dinner. One of the kids fell at childcare and bit their tongue so hard they had to go to hospital so my girlfriend stayed home. Happened on the day so couldn't really cancel for her. Meant I got two entrees, mains, and deserts at least

Having another day off mostly because I slept in. I feel bad but I also haven't taken any medicine yet today.

I feel like having the option to WFH has meant I've worked through some sickness I probably should have taken off.

The kids and the GF are also at home today so impromptu family day

It would be great if it was cheaper but you can also get a whole graphics card for more than the top Steam Machine model. One of the appeals of the Deck before the price increase was it was so cheap. It may not have been the most powerful handheld but you couldn't beat it for the price.

I've seen the details on the Steam Machine and it's unfortunate how things have turned out.

Valve doesn't need more defenders but the market for components is fucked so it's expected the Steam Machine can't be a budget friendly entry PC.

It's good to have a benchmark though. A very low priority for me has been an AMD everything PC to plug into the TV. It's good to compare and see what you can get for the same price if you build yourself.

I've already started a build in PC Parts Picker and it's way more than the Steam Machine. I think I'll need to temper expectations a bit or wait for the AI bubble to burst

We'd been wondering how to get the kids to clean up after themselves more and getting a robot vacuum cleaner has unexpectedly resolved that issue.

The kids are so excited about having a robot and they want to be it's friend so they put things away so the robot can do its job. It's been a double win

I think they come with cloud keys now. Maybe I'll move on the Dream Machine and get one of their fancier gateways as I can't see the benefit of both without spending more on PoE switches

Here's a networking question for people: I want to upgrade my modem to something a bit more powerful, but it looks like things have moved on since last time I looked.

I had some business money a few years ago so I bought a Dream Machine Pro. Then I had to get an access point to make it work. So I've got an old consumer modem/router going into a dream machine.

Back in the day there was an ubiquiti rackmount modem that looked like the perfect pairing, but they have these gateways now that would make the dream machine somewhat redundant. There don't seem to be any decent stand alone modems out now either to get instead.

Should I just get a gateway and move on the dream machine? Is it worth keeping? Is there some other option I'm missing or should look I to?

Finally ordered a NAS and it arrived today. I could probably do the same thing with the PC running OMV I have, but there's so much more setup involved and I keep running into roadbocks with networking. I'll use this and keep it simple whilst I learn to do things by myself

It's a cheap 2 bay Synology. I know people don't like them at the moment but I decided to go with basic whilst I figure things out. Being able to setup the app to access it from anywhere without needing to fuck around with setting up my own VPN is nice, but I'll figure all that out at some point too

I've been thinking about how you need to jump through so many hoops to spend your own money; sign into this, authenticate, get the code. But someone who probably isn't even in this country just spent a bunch of my money on fucking compute at an AI company. Like, how? What's the point of all this shit if someone can backchannel it so easily?

I've got some meetings today it will be easier to attend but I might just take tomorrow off for the heck of it

More transactions gone through, which means more time on the phone. Apparently they happened at the same time but didn't hit the account until later. Makes it look like you're still getting charged on a cancelled card, which doesn't look good.

Now I need to wait for these pending transactions to go through so they can be disputed

Sudden $600 spent at Anthropic on the work card. Cancelled the card and dispited that shit immediately.

You can tell AI is a scam if it's tje first thing these people spend your money on once they get your card details.

And I have to wait for the transactions to go through before they can be disputed. I got on that shit as soon as I saw the notification but I need to wait for the money to leave my account first. What if they say no because it was spent on fucking AI and there is no way to prove I spent thatoney myself since you have nothing to show for that kind of spend?
