Valve Says the Steam Machine Saw a Similar Price Increase as the Steam Deck, Which Means It Was Originally Supposed to Cost About $750

Mind you, I'm not 100% against using Ai. But it should be used responsibly, and only on your local hardware without paying money to support them. This doesn't solve the issue that the models are trained unethical. I have a few local Ai models installed, but my hardware is weak and it is only semi helpful for simple questions or brainstorming, or looking at simple functions (programming) to help with refactoring. Nothing else though.

Before you accuse me of being a hypocrit, I never said nobody should ever use Ai tools ever. My initial comment was about being bad person if you pay these companies money and support them this way. But ultimately you have your own definition of bad person, and if that is the most important thing in the world for you. And no, I'm also not Jesus. lol

What is your favourite gaming console you have played?

Reply in thread

I am aware of the issues categorizing these devices and I actually agree with you. I like saying its a Console like Handheld PC. It is a PC in handheld form factor, with an operating system optimized and build for Console like experience. This gets even more complicated if we put a Linux operating system on the Playstation 5 and just play Steam games on it, as the hardware itself is basically a PC.

I just don't think the Steam Deck (and Steam Machine even more) belongs to a discussion about favorite game console in example. This is purely my personal opinion and don't mean that everyone has to believe and think I what I do, so don't get me wrong.

The Dreamcast is probably the most underrated console of all time. Soul Calibur, Dead or Alive 2, Sonic Adventure, Shenmue 1&2 (I'm European), the fantastic VMU, first console with Internet (first game I played on Internet was Chu Chu Rocket), Crazy Taxi... man this console was a banger. And I just learned the joysticks on the Dreamcast gamepad use magnetic system to prevent joystick drift. Not quiet the same as Hall-Effect as I understand, but still way ahead of its time!

To the OP: Could you wrap the update notes in this post into a spoiler tag? There is no reason this needs to be expanded by default like this. Every we open this post to respond, we have to scroll down 3 or 4 times before we can even see any comment.

As an individual, yes. But the mass makes a big difference. Just because there are terrible companies throwing trash in the ocean does not mean it is okay for you to throw your single trash into it too. And if you do, you are not better than them, you just have less money to throw at it. That's the kind of message I'm trying to communicate.

Exactly why he we shouldn't be mad at him only. Also if he didn't start buying in huge amounts, other companies would. Because the need for RAM doesn't stop for other companies, just because Sam doesn't buy. Also a bit conspiracy theory added by me: I feel like these Ai companies had a secret meeting where they agreed on buying all the RAM, as it would benefit them all...

You misunderstand what I said. I am not saying "YOU" as a person, but you in the sense of anyone who does that. And as said, I do not say that you as a single person will make a difference, but many will. And even if it makes no difference in the end, what I'm saying is, anyone who supports them has no rights to cry about it. But if everyone says "oh it makes no difference", then it will not. I do think that vote with your wallet is a meaningful argument (as you can tell, otherwise I wouldn't continue saying that).

I don't know how to express myself differently. Looks like classic case of miss communication in both of our directions.

GTA 6 Price Finally Confirmed, Features a 'Single-Player Experience' at Launch

I'm not entirely sure, but the game disc can still be sold. Isn't it? If it is just a code you enter and then don't need the disc anymore, then you cannot sell it. Its basically a digital code only, like on Steam / PC. But if the game disc acts as a license, then it will download the rest of the game and you still need the disc to play. In that case you can sell the disc and no longer play the game. Similar to how game key cards work on Switch 2.

Another reason why big publishers want to have a physical release is, that they have a presence everywhere where "normal" games are also sold. Maybe your mom buys it for you, or a friend gives a gift.

My argument is not stupid. Everyone who pays for Ai support these companies, and create a stable and profitable business model. I do not pay for Ai tools and do not contribute to the RAM and SSD shortage. Don't change the subject just because you don't like reality. We are not talking about industrialization (until you brought it up) and climate change, as that is offtopic. The point is that people can vote with their wallet.

No, you are not forced to pay them money to use their Ai tools. This is entirely your decision. And yes, I also blame any company (big and small) who pay money to LLM provider and support them this way. I am not blaming you and me likes only. Sure we don't have the same impact, but that does not mean you are not responsible. Anyone paying them money and support this business model has no rights to complain in my opinion.

He is not the only one buying RAM and selling these services.

I see this in a similar light as videogame cheat engines (for multiplayer games) and the cheaters. I do not blame only the creator of these cheats, but also its users who buy and and create a sustainable business model. The users of Ai who pay for these services are in a similar way responsible.
