And it'll clearly work if you do enough of it, based on the OP.

Louisiana sheriff retires after pleading guilty to beating podcaster who often criticized him
I have ignored hundreds of personal attacks directed at me by an individual who hides behind a computer screen,” Smith’s apology said.
Smith was said to have approached Couvillion from behind while the latter man was seated on an elevated stool at the restaurant bar celebrating his 59th birthday with his wife. Smith then, without warning, placed Couvillion in a chokehold and slammed him to the ground backward
Implying the guy's cowardly for talking "behind a computer screen" (as though that's not how most communication works in 2026) but also literally attacking the dude from behind. Whats a sensitive, hypocritical little bitch.

Saudi official complains that the US has abandoned them to protect Israel exclusively.

What's strange to me is that it's still working. I'm pretty sure if djt started his next speech with "Just to clear the air, yes I fucked some kids, but only the hot ones," exactly zero people would be surprised and 20-30% of US voters would argue it's the kids' fault for being so hot.

A woman's hypothermia death in Pittsburgh after her release from ICE custody is ruled a homicide
Reply in thread
You're correct, but also wtf is that logic? By that line of reasoning, if you were to lock lock someone in a room and they starved to death a few days later, you'd "have NOTHING to do with" their death. Obvious nonsense take, with or without the administration's trademark toddleresque delivery.

It also lumps comments from different instances together, so if you see a post from one community, comments from cross posts all appear under it. It's nice if you've subbed to overlapping communities.
I'd jumped from dbzer0 to piefed.social because I like the software better, so this post was a nice way to kick off the day.

Or projection.
It's an inclusive or though, so I wouldn't bet against noem being a a cannibal at this point.

New autopsy of a baby killed by police in Mississippi deepens outrage
Reply in thread
We're already at the point where if I'm on a jury, someone hitting a copy is a pretty clearcut self defense argument. Seems there's a precedent that if you simply try to escape, they might shoot your baby. Better to be safe and eliminate the threat for the kids' safety.

Direct downloads ensure full availability by allowing all content to be available for download, no matter how obscure it may be.
Until the site shuts down.
I don't think anyone's ever going to argue that direct downloads aren't more convenient, intuitive, accessible, and generally less risky for the downloader. But that comes at pretty steep costs/risks piled onto the host, which is why they're so much harder to sustain long term.

ICE arrests former Kansas mayor who illegally voted for Trump in the 2024 election
Reply in thread
Yeah, definitely not a tragedy. Dude got what he voted for and doesn't regret the vote. If he means what he says about having no regrets, this is an objectively happy ending for him.
And, frankly, props to him for not changing his stance when it happens to affect him personally. I can't say I agree with or even really understand his decision-making process, but I can appreciate the consistency at least.

Firm that worked on past Reflecting Pool renovation passed on Trump project after deeming it ‘unfeasible’
could further enflame mounting criticism that the project was rushed and potentially improperly completed.
Potentially?
We were promised a result that "will last for at least 50 years" and "if you had a knife, you couldn't even cut it" that didn't make it a month. This situation is my current litmus test to determine if I'm interacting with a propaganda bot or not. This job being improperly completed is potentially the most certain fact in the news today.

Reddit will require you to log in to use old.reddit.com

I've manually gone to old.reddit on mobile for years because the normal site blocks scrolling to advertise the app after a bit.
I've had an extension on desktop that redirects all reddit urls to old.reddit for even longer, since it comes up in search results so much.
Neither of these require being logged in today.

Go Flock Yourself (Camera Bagger) by GovernorHat
Reply in thread
From the summary:
Simply stretch a rubber band around the tines of the GFY. Then put a grocery bag around those tines. Slide the apparatus over the spy camera and then pull down gently so the rubber band slides off the apparatus and cinching the bag to the spy camera. The screw head fits the typical handles for things like brooms, paint rollers, etc.
This device doesn't cover the lens directly, it helps you use a pole to get a plastic bag up to hard-to-reach places.

the only two groups they can squeeze that from are customers and drivers.
There's stuff they charge the restaurants for too. They manage to take from all three parties of a transaction while contributing the least value.

Right-wing media rushed to blame killing of Charlie Kirk on trans people
And a whole bunch of people who aren't capable of accepting and processing new information once they've made up their mind will continue to blame the killing on trans people. Almost like that was the point.

LLM generated slop.
The good ones are. I best most are just the suggested auto-replies that appear under the post that people use because they're too lazy to read/type anything themselves. Comments on that site are nearly all just another way to trigger one's own profile to show up in others' feeds one more time than it would have otherwise.
