TIL a human chimpanzee hybrid was possibly created in 1967

A college buddy saw a newspaper ad (this was in the 80s) for a medical experiment project for $500. He went and it was for attempting to impregnate a chimpanzee. He thought about and said he’d be willing to do it only if: nobody ever finds out about his involvement, that the progeny (if any) be treated well, and he’d need a week to come up with the $500.

TIL Iran Has No Water Left, 28 Million People WITHOUT Water

There’s a good real life lore video on nebula. They killed their traditional agricultural system with an extractive well water fueled one which depletes aquifers. Neighboring rivers from other countries got dammed. They rerouted their own rivers for dams and dried out lakes and flooded a salt deposit making the whole river salty. They also focus a lot on domestic agriculture at the expense of water depletion. All around poor mismanagement using outdated American plans to build their dam infrastructure without environmental assessments.

What is something non-standard that you take with you when you travel?

Travel router. I can plug it in to a router (if available) and instantly have a network all my devices connect to automatically that can either connect to a commercial VPN or my home VPN. Works to rebroadcast a WiFi network as well. If you have to pay for WiFi, you can pay for one device and clone the MAC onto the router and rebroadcast a signal all your devices can use. Works on planes, hotels, you name it. I have a gl.inet but there are a few.

My proudest script kiddy achievement was at hotel that had paid WiFi and a free tier. I clicked the free tier but it wasn’t very good and there was no way to upgrade to paid, even after changing MAC and deleting cookies etc. I found a piece of gym equipment that used internet in the hotel gym, cloned its MAC address onto the device, unplugged the gym equipment and boom I had full speed internet as it was on the network’s whitelist with no throttle.

Do you mean home ISP or mobile provider? What country? Who is the provider? In the US, some ISPs (especially those with monopoly) charge after ~1-1.5TB/month which is complete bullshit (fuck you comcast who was hated so much by consumers they rebranded to xfinity)

10 years is a pretty good run for an SD card.. was it an endurance SD? That’s what I’m running. Fried a non-endurance one in under a year, replaced it with an endurance and reduced log writing frequency with some config change and have been cruising for 3-4 years so far.
