Solarpunk Remote Employees

I've been working and managing remotely for 10 years. In fact, I wrote a book about it. Working remotely is not for everyone, but the pandemic showed that many more people in the world can work remotely than currently do, preferably as a part of self-sufficient communities.

I dream that the future of government is to help individuals transition to small, sustainable communities. It's difficult for people to purposefully say goodbye to some luxuries that exist, but it's the only way we can survive on this planet.

When I moved to Europe, I left all my friends behind. It was incredibly difficult to make new friends. Now, I've got a weekly boardgame night where folks drop in. It's the most important part of my week.

So do your best to find like minded individuals (in real life!) and do it together. Together we go far.

Good novels or short stories?

I've recently read The Ministry of the Future. It's a good book that I would consider climate fiction. It's set in near present day and follows a transition to a solar based society. This is interwoven with chapters consisting of hard climate science. Definitely worth a read if you are interested in learning more about our forthcoming transition but I think it falls short as a traditional fiction read.

Nations set to agree on shipping emissions cuts but fall short of aligning with climate goals

This is unfortunate. Here's the most important paragraph for those that didn't click through:

The draft plan also calls for shipping emissions to be slashed by at least 20% but aiming for 30% by 2030 and at least 70% but working toward 80% by 2040 despite a push from Pacific nations for more ambitious targets. Experts calculate the industry must cut its emissions by 45% by 2030 and reach net zero by 2050 to keep on track with 1.5 C temperature goal.
