Oh no! What type of foam was this? What angle?

I've heard that people were violating god's will by covering the solar panels at night so that the cameras would continue to operate for a while before running out of power. It's less obvious that they've been tampered with but allows the satanists a longer period of time before there's any indication of an issue. If nobody shows up in a few days to fix it then that shows there's less risk involved with more permanent alterations. In some towns they put these things within a mile of a respected law enforcement agency. For those god-defying people it might be important to measure the response time when there's an issue with their crime fighting tool. I don't know about that though. I go to church everyday. Becky told me about that. Ask her for more info.

It's such a shame that people are going through such lengths to avoid the prying eye of god in order to commit the crime of shopping at Target.

Oh, good: Discord's age verification rollout has ties to Palantir co-founder and panopticon architect Peter Thiel

For real. I've provided a matrix instance for people to test to see if it suits their needs and to stress test it to make sure it's reliable at the scale we need. So far it's been great for two of us but I'm afraid the rest are all going to join at the same time, the server won't be able to handle the number of people doing voice and video chats and then they'll hate the whole thing. Other thing they might do is join the main Matrix instance and see how slow it is. That's almost worse.

I'm sorry, you didn't ask for all this info. You said a thing and it made me want to get some stuff off my chest. I almost posted more but deleted it. Then I wrote more and deleted that. I'm just gonna stop now but I feel better now that I've typed some things at a stranger on the internet that I agree with. It's almost like a virtual hug. Hope you felt it too :D

Yeah, I've been drinking. It's Friday somewhere.

I need an adult

Just a guess but I know the word for "red" in more languages than I do for the word "purple". It could be that it just makes it easier to talk about between people with different language skills.

Fuck, I just realized I only know how to say "purple" in English but I know the word for "red" in at least three. Is the word "purple" in other languages as weird as the word "purple" sounds to me right now? Does the word "purple" in other languages have better rhymes than it does in English?

I have more questions than I do answers and now we need more adults.

Any tips on music production on Linux?

I've never used FL but I've seen people mention they're had success with it on Linux.

This guide looks legit.

https://linuxvox.com/blog/flstudio-linux/

When I first started with audio production it was with Audacity. When I realized it wasn't the best way to record an album I switched to Ardour. It was compared to Pro Tools a lot at the time and I don't know how similar they are but I loved using it. When I started working with some new people I switched to their preferred DAW, Reaper. Now I basically only use Reaper because it's easier for some of the people newer to production. Ardour is still amazing and I think you should try them both and see which you like more. Maybe you can get FL working well but I think it's better to use something that runs native so you can support the orgs that are producing software for Linux and so eliminate some headaches.

I use native plugins as much as possible but sometimes a collaborator will use something meant for Windows and Mac only. What I do is install the plugin with WINE, using default paths, de-selecting any bullshit I don't care for, and then run a command to sync the plugins, yabridgectl sync. Sometimes plugins don't work perfectly because of missing fonts or whatever but there's a lot of advice on the project page for individual plugins. I've had pretty good luck so far but currently there's a rendering issue I'm waiting for an update on. Mouse clicks are offset for some reason. It's probably fixed by now in the stable version. It's been a month or two since I've checked on it since there are plenty of native and built-in plugins within Reaper.

What's the game? Is it pointing out stuff that is also on reddit? I watch Reacher so that should give you some idea for the level of complexity my brain can handle.

‘Lately, my algorithm is trash’: Are we shaping our feeds or are they shaping us?

I spent the last 8 hours writing a zine so i'm a bit worn out. too worn out for proper capitalization while typing on a steam deck. i've been writing about how excited i was between 1994 and 2004 to be able to get online and explore. i wasn't guided. i wasn't on any kind of tour. i was out there finding my own way and learning what i could from the people willing to share. that was MY algorithm. when people use the words "my algorithm" in regards to social media today they're telling themselves a lie they've been pushed towards.. it's not self-determined but dictated. this has been apparent to many people. some lucky people saw it early and noped out. i read their reasons why and followed because i agreed. there's not individual algorithms, just THE algorithm. what we still have is a choice to allow our brains to parse it. i feel bad for the people who never got to experience how amazing the internet once was and i hope those of us who knew are able to hold onto those memories and show people what it was like so people are willing to keep fighting to keep it a network of computers for the people instead of it being a network of people for machines.

on coolios album, it takes a thief ( i might be wrong ), there was an interlude with a quote ill always remember. "as much as i hate this mother fucker i love this mother fucker." it was about a ghetto but i say that now about the internet all the time.

excuse me, i have to go look at clown porn now. not for sexual purposes though. i just want to relive the good ol' days and laugh about something that's not due to a nervous reaction in response to our impending doom.

Edit: Now that I've slept and sobered up I came back here to delete this but I'll just leave it. I didn't re-read it because it's probably corny like everything I put into the zine I was working on earlier. Just got all fired up and felt it. Either way. Thanks for reading it. Gonna try to keep to my policy of not posting if I've been drinking.

The reality of Discord and its alternatives

Reply in thread

Matrix is more like Skype/Zoom you create a call or session.

That's true for Matrix with Jitsi. I'm selfhosting with Element Call enabled and we're using video rooms that you can use as one does on Discord. It's nice but needs a few more features before I'll be completely happy with it. For a group to voice chat it's great. If you're sharing shows, movies, games, etc then I think it needs the following....

  • Per share stream volume controls
  • Audio quality settings
  • Push to talk

I've seen pull requests that address these things so I'm hoping that we see these features soon than later.

[Forever Free] Slash/Jump on Steam

I tried this the other day and didn't make it very far but when I have more free time I'll get back into it. Really have never played a game with controls like that but it seems like a quality game with some good humour and interesting level design.

If this was a $5 game I'd have bought it.

[Recommendations] I've downloaded VCV Rack (free edition) and am looking for good tutorials for it for a amateur

Reply in thread

I was in the same position a few years ago. I ended up buying a monosynth and regretting it because I didn't really know what I wanted out of having a synth except making cool noises and twisting knobs. Eventually I got turned on to VCV Rack and learned about the basic components of synths from Omri and Hainbach while being able to experiment with the modules on my own. If you follow the Omri tutorials you will learn a ton. I'm still learning new things all the time but I can open the software and begin to design new sounds and entire pieces that play themselves.

I already had some music theory education in the form of two years of guitar lessons and having some knowledge of radio technology that overlaps with synths. Modulation and oscillation aren't exactly hard to grasp so I don't think my background made it that much easier for me.

You should go for it! I'll edit this with the specific video I followed.

Edit: I remembered wrong. I watched this series first https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLa9Em_H8Xs_al-r_90xYiuiz-3N8HZyf_

After that I started following along Omri tutorials. I think it was the one mentioned in this short intro video but now its on patreon or something now. Its free thogub ao thats cool. https://youtu.be/eIM8COc_2jw

At that point I went crazy into it, watching every video in his channel that looks interesting. He's posted so much in the time since I've last checked and now I think I'm going to have to dive back in to all that.
