Just because one of the founders has Chinese roots doesn‘t mean it‘s a Chinese company. In fact Cara is based in the US and falls under Californian jurisdiction.

Also in their FAQ it says:

How does AI detection work on Cara?

Cara uses a third party service for AI image detection and moderation. As a small team with millions of images on the platform, we do not have the manpower to manually review every image uploaded. 

We do not use any of our user’s data to train generative AI models, and we do not give permission to any third party service providers to train on our users’ data either.

They have Glaze as a built in tool on Cara to make the use of it more convenient and to raise awareness. But it‘s still the artists job to run their pictures through it. That means not every image on Cara has been glazed.

Also the last scraper claimed to have a way to undo the glazing although Glaze itself claims all previous attempts to break it have failed so far.

I guess it‘s very vague and honestly I don‘t know anything about this field. The article just felt uplifting for me, hence why I posted it.

The way I understood is not to compete with the ongoing elecrification of traffic but to develop an alternative for the remaining combustion engines that will likely stay for who knows how long.

I'm an Infomaniak user and while I'm really happy with the services they provide and will gladly vouch for them, you're right about their website. Sometimes it feels so jumbled and weirdly organised and some texts in their support documentation feel like they've been written by a bad AI.

I buy music on Bandcamp but I didn't know they where American :/ Whatever I couldn't find on Bandcamp I bought on 7digital (UK). I found it to be cheaper than Qobuz but I don't know about which one is more artist-friendly

Edit: Apparently Qobuz is superior when it comes to audio quality but I'm just an average listener

Can't blame you for using Netflix since they have a lot of exclusive content that's really good. And they do support local filmmaking and recently joined the Blender development fund too which is at least some good news.

To find other alternatives I recommend looking up whatever you want to watch on https://www.justwatch.com/ (or TMDb where JustWatch is integrated) because it shows you where the movie/series is currently streaming within the country you live in. I found new (sometimes local) platforms like this and one of them was even free with a library card.

Also going to the cinema is always an option although it's not really the same type of activity of course.

I didn't even consider other second-hand services since the ones I listed are already quite established here. Might make sense for people closer to the border to have an international platform though.

And yes, I got off Google Search a long ago and am happily using Ecosia :D
