This was a great video. I've done nothing in Godot yet but I watched the video all the way through and I'm super motivated to try it out this week. Perfect timing as I've been wanting to pick it up and start learning how to build games.

Probably because it was incomplete for reasons unknown. I'm not sure why, but we get really bad ballot measures. 118 was super terrible, and 117 was seemingly unfinished.

Interestingly, we had extremely low turnout in the local elections. Apparently RCV, or the sheer number of candidates (over 100 for 12 positions), or a combination of both contributed to very low turnout. There were more people voting for POTUS than any of the local candidates, which is a little disappointing. I'll dig into the numbers this weekend.

That would be after FPTP voting is replaced with RCV or STAR in all 50 states. Trying a third party before those steps will hand the federal government to the GOP for the remainder of my life.

Thankfully I only have to use Windows to play video games. It would be terrible having to use it everyday for work.

Nextcloud is good at general cloud features. It's not specialized in photo management. If you're storing memes or cell phone pictures it's fine, but if you use an actual camera that uses a RAW format, you're much better off using Immich.

I'm running the mastodon stack in docker via a compose file. It was straight forward. Follow the instructions to the letter and it will work.

I will say that it is in your best interest to have an automated update process happen, either manually (via cron) multiple times a day or have some kind of orchestration layer that manages updating the component images once they are released. Mastodon has had some nasty 0 day bugs that involved account and server takeover that had to be fixed immediately, and you don't want to lag very far behind in those cases.

I've been a hardcore Linux gamer for 15+ years, but there's some games that just don't work on Linux, unfortunately. Sim racing was something I wanted to get into so I could get familiarity with some tracks before I actually go drive them, so putting up with windows long enough to launch the games is something I can deal with.

If M$ starts sending me ads mid game, then I might start looking for other solutions.

Metallica, Dr Dre, et al were not wrong in suing Napster. We're seeing the fruits of the evolution of that format. I guess at least people aren't downloading "Get Back ft Stevie Wonder - Oasis.wma" anymore, and somebody is making money off of it. Just (mostly) not the artists that make the music.

Low cost, distributed digital distribution is absolutely a thing. Phones have enormous storage anymore, so much so most people could have their entire music collections available on their phones or tablets - not everyone - but most people.

A distributed streaming platform would really be the way to do this and make it cost effective for everybody. An app that could stream from a list of sources (remember playlists? M3U files that could play from multiple Internet locations - yeah, that already exists and has since before 2000) would enable people to stream the music they haven't found yet or are searching for.

Seems like an interesting open source software project, to be honest. Funkwhale is probably a good basis for extension, and could be run by the artists (or provided to then via a simple click to setup platform) for low overhead.

A lot of low information mouthpieces have trouble understanding data, and it's probably even more difficult with the PPB boot in their mouths. I don't have the performance issues that others note, but I took all of the performance improvement steps noted in the documentation: have bare metal well-resourced db hosts (for multiple services), dedicated redis cache, properly configured php-fpm, etc.

Indeed. If that had not been paying attention over the last couple of years and saw both sides of that second ballot, it would be super overwhelming. Thankfully I did my research ahead of time and knew how to vote before opening the ballot envelope. I still didn't drop it off until a day or two before, though. After that article about the drop box fires, I figured it was a good idea to wait until mid day near election day.

Not really. What you're asking for is for some unknown third party (like the Pacific Greens 😂😂😂) to pop up into place and immediately take the national reigns like a boss. That ain't happening, bruv, otherwise it already would have. Ditching FPTP at least gives the average voter the opportunity to vote for different people (like Sanders not having to caucus with Democrats, or Working Families Party not having to caucus with Democrats, etc).

Or you can sit back and vote third party in a defacto two party system. It's worked well so far. 🤷🤷‍♀️🤷‍♂️

Perhaps in your state, but in Oregon, we can bring initiatives to the ballot through voter signatures. It's how we got RCV in Multnomah county, and it's how the (failed) Measure 117 landed on our ballot this year. Sadly, it was badly written and Oregon voters are gunshy after the (also horribly written and implemented) Measure 110 (narcotics decriminalization) got onto the ballot.
