Steam games will now need to fully disclose kernel-level anti-cheat on store pages
Ooh and it's a giant yellow banner you probably won't miss, and not some two-shades-ligher-than-the-background nonsense.
Good job, Valve.

Wow, a commercial open source product that COULD have pulled a rugpull, looked for all the world like they were planning a rugpull, just uh, did the right thing?
Good job, Bitwarden.

The first graders who survived Sandy Hook will vote in their first presidential election
I'm glad we've taken care of the access to guns and made progress on the societal issues that led to school shootings in the past 12 years, and that they're no longer common.
Oh, wait, we didn't do either of those things?

‘Could Have Been The Parents’: Trump Tries to Shift Blame For Campaigning At Arlington Scandal, Claims Was a ‘Setup’
So we've moved from that didn't happen to it wasn't that bad to it's not a big deal, to it's not my fault all in like 24 hours.
Love this speedrunning he's doing.

Further proof that humanity neither deserves nor is capable of having nice things.
Who would set up an AI bot to shit all over the one remaining useful thing on the Internet, and why?
I'm sure the answer is either 'for the lulz' or 'late-stage capitalism', but still: historically humans aren't usually burning down libraries on purpose.

Microsoft releases a new Windows app called Windows App for running Windows apps
Lol, they're just renaming Remote Desktop to Windows.
So I can use Windows to connect to Windows, and run my Windows.
Truly a moment of marketing brilliance.

Discussing jury nullification is against the ToS of lemmy.world and will get you banned, according to worldnews mod
It's a TOS violation to discuss one of the very real and legitimate responsibilities you have as a juror?
Like, nullification is a thing because it's very much the absolute very very last defense against bullshit laws being used against people by a corrupt judicial system.
It's a moral imperative and something anyone sitting on a jury should understand and be willing to use.
What an absurd take, especially since it sounds like it's all the .world admins having it.

Linux's Sole Wireless/WiFi Driver Maintainer Is Stepping Down - Phoronix
Reply in thread
Well, "maintainer" is usually a single person job. They didn't write all the code or whatever, just were the gatekeeper to what got added and making sure shit works.
So I mean, it's not great nobody is stepping up, but it's also not like they magiced up the entirety of linux's wifi support single handed, either.

Arizona School’s Curriculum Will Be Taught by AI, No Teachers
I'm sure an AI babysitter won't be immediately and utterly broken and bypassed by every single kid in these "classes".
(Seriously: we're talking about 8-12 year olds here and the absolutely are smart enough and incentivized to break the ever-loving crap out of this stupid idea.)

Elon Musk wants to implant millions of people with Neuralink brain chips
Dude can't build cars that don't fall apart when they get wet, and can't build a truck that doesn't fall apart for uh, existing, and we're supposed to let him stick stuff in our brains?
No, thanks, but no.

Microsoft Says Bye-Bye DEI, Joins Growing List Of Corporations Dismantling Diversity Teams
Everything a corporation does that's not outright trying to fuck you out of your time or money is 100% a scam they're trying to pull to convince you they care.
I really wish people would stop falling for it, because, well, there's never going to be real progress made unless there's the force of law behind things like DEI.

Kroger Invests $1B in Antitrust Defense.
So maybe it's just me, but if you have to make promises of spending a billion dollars so that the government will let you buy your next biggest competitor, perhaps you're already too damn big and don't need to be gobbling up your entire industry?
Like I said, just a thought.

Donald Trump To Be Put on Mount Rushmore Under Republican Bill
I mean this won't happen, but I kinda threw up in my mouth a little bit.
The one thing keeping me sane is the realization that that old crusty piece of shit will be dead soon, and I'll never have to see their rapist face again.

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 needs 64GB of RAM for ideal performance — oddly, the game install size is only 30GB
Reply in thread
That's exactly what they're doing: the assets are going to be streamed and then probably cached in RAM, thus you need a lot of RAM.
Of course this makes me think that FS2024 is going to get live-serviced and killed at some point when they decide to stop hosting all that data and welp so much for your game you bought, too bad.

Oof: Years before Steam, a Blizzard engineer wanted to turn Battle.net into a third-party game store, but was reportedly turned down
Can you imagine Battle.net beating Steam, then the primary online digital distribution platform ending up being owned by Activision?
I get the icks just thinking about it.

New Florida sex education curriculum excludes almost all information about sex
The worst thing I ever read about the issues about destroying sexual education is that it also leaves children unable to actually describe any abuse, because they don't know what's going on, what anything is called, and what is and isn't a "good" touch.
I'm not saying Florida Republicans are in any way wanting that outcome, but you have to at least wonder why they're so concerned about this.
