Whether or not it’s was a failure depends on what you expected from it. Reddit was not going to change its mind. The investors demand more money and will continue to squeeze Reddit for ever dime the can. It wasn’t going to die overnight either.

What did happen is a non-trivial amount of users left and found the Fediverse. Apps are currently being developed to make it more accessible to your average user. The Fediverse will no longer be some obscure thing for a niche group. I think it was a huge success and will have long term repercussions for Reddit.

I’ve said it another thread but moderators need to be patient with all of the new people. I made a post trying to get some questions answered and was shit on by a mod for not knowing the rules. I couldn’t even find the sidebar at that point. If that is the attitude new users are met with when making mistakes then new contributions will be limited.

What for? It’s hard to imagine him doing anything impeachable considering all the shit the last guy got away with.

Just like on Reddit, I don’t care. As long as it’s not tied to my ability to interact with the community then let them have their silly internet points.

I hate ISP way more than any gas station. In fact I don’t hate gas stations at all. Weird.

The large majority of Reddit users are casual and don’t care. I honestly don’t blame them, there are other things to worry about. We, the fediverse community, need to stop concerning ourselves with Reddit honestly. It’s pretty embarrassing at this point. It’s like stalking an ex on social media after a break up. If you expected Reddit to die because of this you were living in a dream world. What did happen is a part of the Reddit community left and discovered the fediverse. Over time more improvements will be made at a faster pace. Eventually Lemmy or Kbin may become the new “Front Page of the Internet” but it was not going to happen over night. I am excited to see where we are in a year from now.

Stop worrying about Reddit. Enjoy Lemmy or Kbin, contribute, and grow the community. All things in good time my friend.

One other thing to note is that many of these companies don’t even try to determine if you live in California or not. I have worked for two large tech companies on data governance issues and we didn’t even bother to check. If we got a request we would comply with CCPA. It was not worth the potential fines to try and only comply with CA residents. Reddits whole business model is based on that data though so they may deem it worth the effort.

I am feeling the same thing. I left Reddit completely but Kbin and the Fediverse does not have the same addictive qualities. I see it as a good thing though I think it’s only a matter of time before it gets there.

My biggest issue right now is that Kbin does not seem to hide or blur NSFW content. It’s getting awkward to explain to my wife why the occasional hard core porn comes across my stream.

The difference is that once a third part app is made for this community I don’t have to worry about some greedy asshole ruining it for profit. I am patient and this community is actually better.

I moved over a little more than a week ago and honestly the improvements here have already come a long way. I am really enjoying it and have zero issue fully replacing Reddit with the Fediverse.

While rankings can be subjective I truly believe this is wrong. It was an okay movie, period. There are hundreds of Sci-Fi moves that I believe tank above it so calling it one of the greatest is a huge stretch for me.
