Steam Summer Sale 2026 Has Begun
what’re you buying?
Seemingly nothing. Discounts on the items on my wishlist are rather mild.

Is gaming better as a kid or an adult?
As you said, there are pros and cons. A child's brain is something else, I remember excitement and curiosity that an adult's brain just cannot replicate. I don't think I'll ever feel what I felt when I played Half-Life or World of Warcraft for the first time. Games are still enjoyable though - just in a different way.

I tried Qwen 3.6 a3b and Gemma 4 a4b, but both were too stupid for everyday work.

Frog put Claude in a box

Claude is in love with cli tools, it uses them for virtually everything these days in these long chains connected with && and |. This is probably pushing more and more people to let it run in the auto mode.

Alcohol is the root of 62 diseases and a partial cause of dozens more
Reply in thread
This isn't surprising given how rooted alcohol is in our culture. A social lubricant they often call it. I think peer pressure was the hardest thing I had to deal with when I quit.

What do you think about the dead internet theory?

I agree, in principle, that people call other people bots as a way to insult them. But this is just survivorship bias:
Bots are relatively easy to detect

GTA 6 Price Finally Confirmed, Features a 'Single-Player Experience' at Launch
The ultimate edition doesn't include anything important, but the whole premise that they can charge $20 for something that is already in the game and is artificially hidden from you doesn't spark joy in my heart. I was going to wait for independent reviews anyway, but with this nonsense I'll probably wait for a solid discount too. Besides, I don't expect good performance on my non-pro PS5.

Moving to Fedora? How stable is it?
Also, I am a bit unsure how to easily move between them (programs and data).
I simply use rsync to move files to a temporary machine and wipe the disk. But I don't store that much data locally in the first place. Code and important configs are synchronized using git, firefox sync preserves bookmarks and extensions. Programs are easy to install using a package manager.
I think Fedora offers a good balance between freshness and stability. The installation process is easy; you get btrfs, zram, and disk encryption too.
Idk if a newer kernel and plasma will solve these problems, but Fedora is a good distro regardless. I definitely cannot recommend Debian as Plasma doesn't get any bugfixes there and the kernel might be too old to fix your problem with the web camera.

I'm here for genuine interactions with other people. So I'm not a fan of ads from brand new accounts that will never engage with the community or enrich it.

Steam Machine pricing announced (from $1049-$1428 USD), reservation lists open
That's not bad at all given the market. If I needed a PC, I'd definitely consider Steam Machine.

Commercial aviation is much safer than cars because there are strict procedures and oversight that applies to everyone involved - not only pilots, but the entire operational chain. It isn't exactly the same when it comes to small business jets.

'We had to get out of the way': The backlash over delivery robots
Reply in thread
Delivering food and other items from online stores is hardly terrible or crushing. That would be working at a slaughterhouse or gathering berries under a scorching sun. Delivery isn’t as cozy as sitting in a nice, warm office, but a lot of students do it because it's accessible and pays their bills.
